Do Remember How to Boil an Egg I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgets how long rice should cook. My client Alisa has a brilliant system for remembering cooking basics without cluttering her beautiful kitchen: she tapes simple recipes inside a cabinet door near the stove. This way she can always remember how to whip up a delicious vinaigrette or her morning oatmeal.

Don't Allow Paper Into Your Life My friend Natacha is vigilant about banning unnecessary paper from her home. Every time it threatens to darken her doorstep she asks, "Do I need this? Could I get it online?," avoiding the stress and confusion of accumulated paper. Anything that doesn't make the cut is thrown directly into recycling or the shredder. Just saying no is your best tool; dmachoice.org, catalogchoice.org, and mycheckfree.com help too. |

Give a Shelter Animal Some Comfort As you declutter this spring, consider donating extra towels, sheets, newspapers, or other supplies to local animal shelters, such as Treehouse, Anti-Cruelty Society, PAWS, Canine Rescue. Not sure how many linens to hang on to? Some people stick with 2 sheet sets per bed and 2 towels per person, plus one or two more for guests. |
