Do Avoid Time Travel Still writing "'09"? Date the next 10 checks in your checkbook "__/__/2010," leaving the day/month to be filled in later. Few of us write millions of checks anymore, but this ensures they're accurate and -- most importantly -- puts "'10" into your muscle memory. Set a reminder in your calendar to do this next January, too. (This tip comes from a wonderful client, and I can tell you it works!) |

Don't Add to Your Work With all of these post-holiday sales, you might be tempted to buy a few new pieces of clothing (and then donate the same number of older things from your closet, right?) Try buying only easy-care items -- those that don't require dry cleaning or hand washing. Principle: save your future self time, money, & energy. |

Get Safe Web Surfing Open DNS provides easy, free "DNS resolution." I'm no tech genius , but I gather that DNS (Domain Name Server) takes the simple web address you type in to your browser (e.g., www.sworganizing.com) and finds the exact IP address you want -- avoiding fake, malicious websites you could be re-routed to. Follow the instructions to plug a couple of numbers into your computer. You can also block types of sites you (or your kids) don't need to see. PC Magazine reviews it here. |

Give Your Soles to Haiti & Elsewhere Share Your Soles sends "gently worn shoes to those in greatest need around the world." So simple! And so important, especially now -- they're making a huge push to help earthquake victims in Haiti. No shoes lying around? This non-profit also need volunteers and cash donations to get the shoes to those who need them. |
