Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier

Celebrate simplicity: the sun returns and tax days is over.

Hi there. This is a quick monthly tip list provided by Molly Boren of Simplicity Works Home and Office Organizing Services. I hope it makes your life a little easier.

Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now!
I.e., read this and then file or delete it - wouldn't want
it to become e-clutter...
DO

Do Help Your 4/14/10 Self
Set up 2009's tax files in a handy place. (If you already have, make sure it's handy.) It'll be a ready home for papers that casually wander in all year and suddenly become very important on 4/14. Go simple: 1 file for income statements, 1 for deductible expenses. Subdivide only if you'll have 10+ pages or receipts in a category.
DON'T

Don't Expect to Read Everything
It's impossible. Give reading materials a limit. When they outgrow it, start recycling - no excuses. I'm allowed whatever fits on the tray on my coffee table. When a new magazine doesn't quite fit, it's scary but liberating to grab the oldest ones from the teetering stack, flip through, and toss them into the recycling.
GET

Get a Leg Up on the Post Office
Postage rates go up again on 5/11 (from $0.42 to $0.44 per 1st class letter) - can you believe it? Pick up few books of "forever" stamps before then. Buy a few extra as gifts, thereby showing your friends and family how organized you are.
GIVE

Give Flash-ily
Donate unneeded flash drives to people in developing countries. De-clutter your office while doing some good!Use those old $0.42 stamps to mail them off to the San Francisco non-profit Inveneo, which builds "computer and communications systems in mud-hut villages in Africa and other remote areas" (PC World).
