UMCH E-NEWSLETTERMarch 2011
Greetings!

It's Spring and if your home is anything like ours, you're busy. We have lot of great things going on. Our new teaching kitchen - generously donated by a local contractor - is almost finished. Soon our youth and families will learn nutritional and culinary skills to enhance their independence and better care for their families.

Our Auxiliary Spring Flea Market and Bake sale is coming up on April 15-16. The Auxiliary volunteers are hard at work sorting and pricing every item. You can find all sorts of goodies for sale that have been donated by caring people just like you! Keep reading for more information about the sale.

Many of our children and families are tuning into the hit TV show "The Celebrity Apprentice" Sunday night on NBC where Atlanta music producer, rapper and entrepreneur Lil Jon has selected the United Methodist Children's Home as his designated charity while he competes for cash prizes. Join us in cheering him on and see who wins the title "The Celebrity Apprentice" and a bonus $250,000 for their chairty 9 p.m. Sunday nights on NBC.

Our Family Foster Care Program is excited about a several upcoming adoptions. Three different families are in the process of becoming a forever family for  seven children who are in our foster care program!  Are you interested in opening your home to foster children? Our goal in 2011 is to double the number of foster families in our program in order to serve even more children who need stable and loving homes. If you would like more information for yourself or someone you know, contact Denise Peacock.

All of these exciting blessings are possible because of you. Thank you for your support!

Auxiliary Volunteers and Flea Market Sale

aux flea mkt

Last year volunteers pitched in more than 1,500 hands-on hours making UMCH a more beautiful, peaceful and healing place. Thank you to the many church groups, businesses and individuals who volunteered their time and talents! Some of the most dedicated volunteers are the men and women of our Auxiliary. Did you know that they raise about $90,000 every year through their 3 sales? That money is used to directly support our programs for children, youth and families.

The next UMCH Auxiliary Flea Market and Bake Sale will be on April 15 and 16 on our campus at 500 S. Columbia Drive in Decatur. The sale opens at 9:00 am and lasts until 4:00 pm each day.

You can find great deals on jewelry and accessories; infant, toddler, children and adult clothing; jewelry; pictures and picture frames; dishes, china, crystal, small appliances, lamps and other housewares; furniture; sports and camping gear; lawn equipment; books; toys; and many other items!

Don't miss the bake sale while you're here. In addition to delicious cakes, pies and other goodies, breakfast and lunch items will also be for sale. All proceeds support the children and families served by the United Methodist Children's Home.

The Auxiliary is always looking for more smiling faces and helpful hands to prepare for the next sale. Ask about volunteering while you're here to shop, or click here for more information.

There are always more children in need of a safe and loving home. That's why the United Methodist Children's Home works day in and day out to provide a safe haven for abused children and prevent child abuse by creating stronger families.

Just as the Children's Home provides a stable and reliable home for children and families, our Sustainers provide stable and reliable support for our ministry. Joining the Sustainers Club is easy - simply set up recurring, safe and convenient monthly donations directly through your credit card on our secure website.

Members of the Sustainers Club say they joined for many reasons:

  • "I can give a small amount each month that fits easily into my budget, and it really adds up. I'm proud of how much I'm able to give by the end of the year."
  • "It's very convenient - one less thing I need to remember to do!"
  • "It's an easy way to have a big impact on the life of child."

By becoming a Sustainer, you are playing a critical role in our work to provide redemptive, healing services that bring meaningful change to the lives of children and families. Here are some examples of how your gifts can help:

  • A monthly gift of $10 allows a youth to participate in a fun activity each month like a movie and pizza night.
  • $25 each month can provide all parenting class members with materials that teach them how to create a more safe and loving home for their children.
  • $45 helps a foster family with all the extra little things that pop up each month like new shoes, school field trips or birthday gifts.
  • A monthly gift of $95 covers the cost of 3 counseling sessions each month with a trained professional.

To get started, click right here to make an online donation. Enter your monthly gift amount in the Gift Amount box, then in the Gift Frequency drop-down menu, choose the time frame that's best for you. Enter the rest of your information to complete the gift. It's that easy!

For more information about monthly giving through the Children's Home Sustainers Club, please contact Alina Crews (404-327-5854). Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child.
