Jackson and Wagner
Jackson and Wagner-NAHS alumni

We've featured Jackson (formerly Gilbert) in this column before so it is time to feature Wagner, Jackson's new brother! Wagner first came to NAHS in June 2010 as  a puppy in a transfer from Iowa. He was quickly adopted and stayed with his family for almost two years. Wagner was left home alone much of the time and his family realized this was not best for him so they returned Wagner in early April 2012. It just so happened that the Mikol family was considering a playmate for Jackson and hoped they could find a good match at NAHS. When they saw Wagner, they knew they'd found Jackson's new brother. The family reports Jackson and Wagner get along really well as shown in the picture. They are true buddies and the family couldn't be happier! Wishing many years of fun and companionship to Wagner, Jackson and the Mikol family!

18th Annual Putts for Pets on July 9

Putts for Pets Join NAHS on Monday, July 9, 2012, at Cress Creek Country Club for the 18th Annual Putts for Pets Golf Outing! This long-standing event provides critical funding for the cats and dogs who must call the shelter home.

Golf registration is $195 per person ($780 per foursome) and includes lunch, golf with cart, full complimentary beverage service throughout the event and dinner. Silent and live auctions will also take place as well as a 50/50 raffle and other fun activities! If you aren't able to golf but would like to participate in the dinner and auctions, the fee is $60. In order to secure your spot, REGISTER TODAY!

All proceeds from the Putts for Pets Golf Outing benefit the programs and services of NAHS, which include the sheltering and adoption of homeless pets, education programs for children and a behavior helpline. June Promotion: Certified, Pre-owned Cats
In honor of Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat month, Naperville Area Humane Society is offering "Certified, Pre-owned Cats" as its June promotion!

From June 1-30, the adoption fee for adults cats is $25 while kittens are $100. With kitten season upon us, the reduced fees allow NAHS to find homes for more cats and kittens so room in the shelter can be made for additional pets.

If you are thinking of opening your home to a new cat or kitten, please stop by the shelter or visit our website to look at all the cats and dogs available for adoption.

If you aren't able to add a new feline to your family right now, there are some other ways you can help homeless cats and kittens:
1. Show your virtual support by dedicating your Facebook status, tweet or blog to the NAHS Cat of the Week, helping to spread the word. You can also friend us on Facebook and follow our tweets at the links below.
2. Donate items including treats, toys, crates, food and litter to the shelter. These donations allow NAHS to then use funds on other necessities like vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries.
3. Volunteer to become a foster family caring for a pregnant cat and her kittens, or orphaned kittens too young for adoption. For more information on volunteer opportunities, contact Becky at (630) 420-8989 x113 or via email.

Cats and dogs are in the shelter through no fault of their own - it's usually owners who can no longer afford to care for their pet or don't have enough time to give their pet the love and attention they need and deserve. So, take a chance on a certified, pre-owned cat!
