Carilion Clinic is still wrapping up their campaign, but they have already surpassed last year's total and this year's goal... and they're still going strong, just having reached $450,000!

Campaign Co-Chairs Terri Workman and Bill Jacobsen and Campaign Managers Rosanne Hix, Hope Parks and Martha Adams have done an amazing job trying to make sure every Carilion employee had the opportunity to give, and in managing a  campaign using online giving and paper pledge forms.  Site coordinators planned many creative special events, from hot dog lunches to silent auctions, to a dunking booth! Thanks to all their tireless work for making the campaign a huge success!

Friendship Retirement Community ran a record-breaking campaign this year.  Longtime supporter Kandy Elliott served as Campaign Manager; Kandy and her determined team worked hard to reach out to each Friendship employee, and had fabulous incentives for employees at all giving levels. Their campaign increased over $4,000 to reach an all-time high!

Altec Industries saw a campaign increase of more than $31,000 from last year, almost an incredible 60% increase!  Campaign Manager Renee Spitz made sure all employees heard the United Way message, and Plant Managers John Herrig and Ben Griffin did a superb job of motivating employees by telling how United Way is important to them personally.  Congratulations, Altec!

Integrated Textile Solutions

ran another terrific campaign full of best practices, and increased their total by over $3,400 from last year!  First-time Campaign. Manager
Susan Mountcastle hosted luncheons at the kickoff and wrap-up meetings, and there were drawings and raffles for all to enjoy... way to go for involving everyone and
 keeping it fun!

Getting Out in the Community

It's almost tax season! This year, help Total Action Against Poverty (TAP) with tax preparation for those in your community! You don't have to have any prior knowledge about preparing taxes; training will be provided in January 2012. The Earned Income Tax Credit or the EITC is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income working individuals and families. The clinic will operate January 23, 2012-April 15th, 2012. Contact Kristin Adkins at kristin@uwrv.org for more information!!

Community Impact News

EAT WINGS RAISE FUNDS AT BUFFALO WILD WINGS!

As you might have seen in an earlier ECM Bulletin, Student United Way is a two-year program designed to develop high school students into strong community leaders and citizens, exposing youth to opportunities to make a difference in their community by giving, advocating and volunteering.  This year, 35 Junior students from 9 area high schools have been working in their school teams to organize and implement a United Way fundraising campaign.  Later in the school year, students will use problem-solving skills to identify specific areas they wish to address and award funding to quality programs addressing this particular issue.

As an additional fundraiser to build the total from their campaigns, Buffalo Wild Wings (Tanglewood) has agreed to hold an Eat Wings Raise Funds night and give 15% of all purchases from those presenting this ticket to the Student United Way group to allocate into these quality community programs!  Please encourage your employees, family and friends to purchase food from Buffalo Wild Wings (Tanglewood) and present a ticket to support these students as they show us what it means to LIVE UNITED in the Roanoke Valley
