ECM Bulletin - October 28, 2011

Dear Campaign Managers,

Fall is upon us and there's a chill in the air. That means that we must be over halfway through United Way Campaign Season! If you haven't kicked off your campaign yet, we are ready and willing to help you get started. We have had some more outstanding successes and we wanted to share these with you in this bulletin.  Katherine Walker

Additionally, we had a very successful Presidents Circle event on October 18th at the Patrick Henry Ballroom. Our guest speaker was Dr. Katherine Walker, who spoke about the importance of philanthropy in our community. Thank you all for helping to spread the word!

Thank you so much for all your hard work thus far in helping us advance the common good of the community! If you have any questions or are unsure of who to speak to about your campaign, please call Sonya at 777-4208 or e-mail her at sonya@uwrv.org

 Best Wishes,

The Development Team

Campaign Highlights

Pepsi logo

Pepsi Bottling Co. ran a reinvigorated campaign that more than tripled from last year, raising an additional $7,000! First-time Employee Campaign Manager Melinda Graham worked hard to schedule meetings so that employees on all shifts could listen to beneficiaries tell them how programs funded by their United Way donations changed their lives. Pepsi's total more than tripled over last year's total... what an incredible campaign!

  Friendship logoKandy Elliot

Friendship Retirement Community did an outstanding job this year led by their ECM Kandy Elliott (also our Presidents Circle co-chair). They raised almost $4,000 more than last year, continuing on a long-standing trend of increasing year after year.

AKZO Nobel logoAKZO-Nobel increased their campaign almost 20% from last year!  Campaign Manager Gloria Black kept it fun with an auction and a competition between UVa and Tech fans.  Employees enjoyed a fish fry before the flurry of activity as the auction closed and the campaign ended.

Associated Asphalt logo Associated Asphalt increased their campaign over $7,000 from last year!

Steel Dynamics logo

Steel Dynamics - Roanoke Bar Division increased their campaign over $3,000 from last year!

TRANE logoKristin and Chrystal

TRANE and ECM Chrystal Flores pulled together an amazing 2011 Campaign, raising   over $10,000 more than last year! Chrystal did a great job leading her campaign team ad utilizing best practices including a meeting with all employees, a leadership dinner, and a United Way beneficiary speaker! They had a cash machine as a part of their raffle, along with some great incentives. Each year Trane seems to out-do themselves and we say "Thank you!".

Glenvar Day of Caring 2011
Over 150 Glenvar High School students had a chance to act out their "LIVE UNTIED" t-shirts this week. Continuing with an annual tradition of volunteering, the students served at Greenvale School, Northwest Child Development Center, Friendship Retirement Community, The Salvation Army, Feeding America, and Adult Care Center. The United Way hand was able to visit the preschool children at Greenvale and Northwest, and we had a great time seeing the Glenvar students interact with the preschool children! If you are interested in having a group of coworkers volunteer, please contact Kristin Adkins at kristin@uwrv.org
