Live United - United Way
ECM Bulletin - September 2, 2011

Dear Campaign Managers,

With two ECM trainings under our belt, and close to 100 companies already geared up to run their campaigns, it's safe to say we are in full swing. If you haven't had a chance to attend a training yet, we have one more on September 22nd and there is still time to RSVP. For you ECMs who are in the midst of planning your campaigns, don't forget to refer to our Best Practices guide, available on our website, for some fun campaign themes, special events and prize ideas. If you haven't already, get in touch with your United Way staff person to secure your United Way campaign supplies and pledge forms.

Enjoy your holiday weekend! We hope you will be refreshed and ready to continue advancing the common good next week!

Best Wishes,

The Development Team

Campaign Highlights

To kick off their United Way campaign efforts, Western Virginia Water Authority held its annual golf tournament at the Botetourt Country Club. All proceeds of the event each year are donated to United Way of Roanoke Valley. Golfers of all levels came out this past Saturday and gave it their best effort on the green. We wish WVWA much success as they continue their United Way campaign.

The 2012 campaign year wasn't just another year for The Roanoke Times. With Debbie Meade, President and Publisher, taking the role of 2011 Campaign Chair for the Roanoke Valley the pressure was on to set the standard for campaigns throughout the Roanoke Valley. This week, Debbie Meade and her campaign team proudly announced they exceeded their internal goal, increased their campaign over 21% from the previous year's campaign and hit a record total for the campaign. The dream team at The Roanoke Times consisted of co-chairs, Karen Belcher and Keith Liles, and Campaign Ambassadors, Yvette Andrews, Tracy Brown, Amanda Codispoti, Tina McEnheimer, and Joseph Park.

Your Hometown station WDBJ-7, wrapped up its 2011 Pacesetter campaign.  As a result of ECMs Joe Dashiell, John Thomas and Stephanie Sterrett's hard work, they were able to exceed last year's campaign total and double their number of leadership givers. To celebrate their success, WDBJ-7 staff enjoyed a celebratory lunch and ECM John Thomas drew raffle winners for prizes such as movie passes and PTO days. WDBJ-7, headed by 2010's Campaign Chair Jeff Marks, also hosted United Way of Roanoke Valley's 2nd ECM Training of the campaign season this week and provided a delicious lunch to all of the attending ECMs.

Community Impact News

Did you know that there are over 30,400 uninsured adults in the Roanoke Valley? That's 1 out of 5 individuals without access to preventive care and a primary care physician, delaying the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and increasing avoidable emergency room usage.

That's why United Way invests 36% of your gifts to the Impact Fund to support access to essential healthcare services that not only meet individual health needs but also improve their overall daily living and productivity.   Lastly, your generous giving supported 535 appointments for psychiatric care and/or medication management and allowed 240 children to receive healthcare services essential for their well-being!
