Community Impact News

August is Kindergarten Readiness Month in Virginia! Join the Roanoke Valley and communities around the commonwealth as we recognize the importance of investing early in the lives of our youngest citizens.  Do you have a little one getting ready for school this fall? It's never too early to get young children on track to be successful in school and in life.  Take advantage of the library's Kindergarten Story Times held throughout the month and instill a love of learning at an early age.  Then check out this month's parent's page from Smart Beginnings for tips on how you can get your tot prepped for the first day of school.  United Way is a proud partner and supporter of local efforts that help our youngest citizens meet their fullest potential.  To learn more about how United Way is investing in Education in the Roanoke Valley, visit: http://uwrv.org/Education.php

2011 Campaign News

On your mark, get set, GO! Our 2011 Pacesetter campaigns have officially kicked off and ECM trainings are well underway. On June 18th, representatives from over 20 companies throughout the Valley arrived to Advance Auto Parts to start planning their 2011 United Way campaigns. Debbie Meade, President and Publisher of the Roanoke Times, welcomed guests and discussed the important role that businesses throughout the Roanoke Valley play in advancing the common good of our community. United Way's Abby Verdillo led a discussion around UWRV's new strategic focus on Education, Income and Health and the improved impact UWRV will be able to achieve in the upcoming years.

2011 Employee Campaign Manager Cultivation Co-Chairs, Stephanie Sterrett and Lauren Thomas are proud to report that the first ECM Training went amazingly well. 23 ECMs, a mix of rookies and veterans all learned something new while attending the July 26th training at WDBJ7. The trainings are designed this year to give ECMs a forum to discuss with each other campaign ideas, goals, best practices, and solutions to common barriers. If you would like to get in on the discussion or pick up new ideas, we have two more ECM Trainings planned for August 31st  at 12pm and September 22nd at 8am. Please send your RSVP to Cristen Easton at  cristen@uwrv.org or call 777-4203.
