Contact Lenses That Change Color to Inform Diabetics About Blood Sugar Levels
Diabetes regularly have to check their blood sugar levels, with repeated blood tests. However, a biochemical engineer from the University of Western Ontario came up with probably one of the most useful inventions for diabetics.
Soft contact lenses provide a non-invasive way of checking the level of glucose by changing colors each time the level of sugar in blood increases or lowers. When nanoparticles implanted in the lenses come into contact with glucose molecules found in human tears a chemical reaction causes the lenses to change their color, warning the person about the sugar levels.

"Beautiful eyes":
How Lasik was developped
Radial Keratotomy, or R.K., was the first surgical procedure to correct nearsightedness. It was pioneered in Russia by Slava Fyodorov and had millions of people throwing away their glasses.
Fodorov's story is the stuff of medical myth. A little boy got in a fight and broke his glasses, cutting his eye. All of a sudden, he could see better. The little boy's doctor, Fyodorov, asked himself, if accidental cuts can improve vision, what could precision cuts do?
Although RK provided freedom from glasses for millions of people, it has largely been replaced by Laser vision correction because the laser's greater accuracy and shorter healing time. |
"See" what other Lasik patients do!
Every month we will feature a business that one of our patients owns or works for. This free posting let's all our other friends know what interesting things we all do. If you would like to be a featured business, please send us your company logo with a link to your web site as well as a brief description of what your company does. This month, we are featuring Captain Don Moseley of Shellback Yacht Cruises for chartered sailing for that special event.
