Every Friday our Learn English page will be published in Haaretz English edition newspaper with articles to read, practice exercises and language games. israeli director of icon sci-fi film festival to visit the uk |

Uri Aviv, the General Director of the Icon Israeli Science Fiction Festival, has been invited to the London International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film (SCI-FI-LONDON), following the visit of SCI-FI-London's director to Israel last October. Supported by BI ARTS, Aviv will participate in a number of events, presenting the world of Israeli Science Fiction culture, literature and cinema. 29 April-4 May, London

deep tones for peace concert |
Deep Tones for Peace, an international internet music concert promoting peace in the Middle East, will be performed simultaneously in both Jerusalem and New York and streamed world-wide over the internet on the website ustreams.com. The annual International Cello Seminar and Spring Festival will take place in Jerusalem with a series of master classes, lectures and concerts. As part of the festival, an international amateur cellist congress will be held. Supported by BI ARTS, Dr. Selma Gokcen, renowned British cello and Alexander technique teacher, will give master classes and private lessons to amateur cellists during the Congress. 12-17 April, Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance

students from afula win top prizes in entrepreneurship challenge in bulgaria |
56 students from ten countries gathered in Sofia, Bulgaria in March to take part in an international entrepreneurship challenge , part of our skills@work project. Representing Israel were students from the Amal Ofek School in Afula, who won the local competition held in Tefen in November 2008. The Israeli student from the winning team (which also included students from Bulgaria, Romania and Britain) will travel to the UK to participate in a special training program to develop entrepreneurship.

famelab 2009 science communication workshop |

Nine new Israeli science communicators have been chosen to compete in the FameLab final on 4 May. A two-day science communication workshop will prepare the contestants to impress the judges and the audience with three minute original talks that are both scientifically accurate and entertaining. British writer, broadcaster and film maker Chris Riley and Israeli stage and film actress Esti Zakhem will lead the Master Class at Hemda Science Education Centre in Tel Aviv. 22-23 April | |
