The Illinois Theatre Association is thrilled to announce its Spring Workshop Series 2011 - Professional Development for Artists & Educators.  Choose from one of three full-day trainings offered in April, May, and June.  All workshops are taught by Master Guest Artists.

April 9, 10:00am - 4:00pm
Teaching the Art of Mask Theatre:
A Workshop for Drama Teachers
Presented by Master Guest Artist, David Knezz

Theatre should be based on more than a well-trained speaking voice.  A great actor fills the stage with his presence.  For actors, masks are potent learning tools to instill more expressive body language to their roles.  This workshop is designed to unlock the presence and creativity that is stored in the actor's body, thus enabling him to create characters more authentically on stage.

Location:  Quest Academy; 500 N. Benton St., Palatine, IL

Maximum number of participants:  18

The Red Nose Mask and The Clown State:

One Day Introductory Master Class

Presented by Master Guest Artist, Paolo Coletto

This Master Class is open to anyone who whishes to experience the power of each individual's uniqueness, presence, awareness, and connection with the audience.  With the help of the Red Nose, ".....the smallest mask in the world," participants are exposed to a state of "being without doing," in the here and now of the power of their own unique folly, transposed into poetry.  Regardless of a participant's personal artistic journey, experience with the "Clown State" is fundamental because it informs participants with an unforgettably profound state of freedom and authenticity in front of an audience.

Location:  tba  -- in Chicago
Maximum number of participants:  15

June 11, 10:00am - 4:00pm
An Introduction to Viewpoints and Suzuki
Presented by Master Guest Artist, Ofer Ravid

In this introduction to the Viewpoints and Suzuki techniques, you develop greater awareness of the relationships between your body, others, and space and time.  These relationships then become tools for enhancing creativity and presence in rehearsal and performance.  These two techniques complement one another -- While the Viewpoints technique facilitates improvisation and group creation by developing awareness to the actor's surrounding, the Suzuki technique is based on strict forms and movement routines through which the actor develops strong physical presence and a better sense of his own body in space.  Practicing these techniques supports text-based theatre as well as more physically oriented and devised work.

Location:  Metropolis Performing Arts Center; 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights, IL

Maximum number of participants:  20
