Greetings!

We would like to thank all our members who opened their homes and their hearts for our visitors from Kazakhstan and Ukraine. Staying in the homes of Angelinos gave them an unforgettable experience to learn first-hand about the American way of life. In return, our home hosts had the opportunity to learn about a new culture without leaving the United States. We are so fortunate to have dedicated citizen diplomats who participate in these exchanges each year - we could not carry out our work without them! Thank you!

I would like to share with you an article that was published this week in the Glendale News Press about IVCLA Citizen Diplomat Judy Smith who hosted Olga Tykhonova from Ukraine. If you would like to host an international visitor in your home and meet new friends from around the world, contact us at (213) 388-1428 x26.

Salam Dharejoy

In recognition of excellence in journalism, Salam Dharejo (who came to Los Angeles in 2010 as a participant in the International Visitor Leadership Program on Human Trafficking) was honored with the 2010 Developing Asia Journalism Award and secured first runner-up prize. His story entitled "In Search of an Identity" appeared in Newsline Magazine in April 2010 and was selected for The Shape of Asia to Come, category. The story was about the plight of Begali Immigrants living in Pakistan. Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) organized the event in November 2010 in Tokyo, Japan.

The Awards Ceremony was part of the 2010 Developing Asia Journalism Awards (DAJA) Forum that brought 19 DAJA Finalists from across the Asia and Pacific region together to discuss the role of journalism in development and approaches to improving reporting on a range of development issues.
When Mr. Dharejo was in Los Angeles last year he met with Driscoll's Farm, Los Angeles Metro Task Force on Human Trafficking, Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County and the Center for the Study of Urban Poverty at UCLA.

The International Visitors Council of Los Angeles (IVCLA) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization. Our mission is to create international understanding and cooperation between the Los Angeles region and the rest of the world. IVCLA works to accomplish this mission through the professional meetings and cultural activities we arrange for emerging international leaders who are individually selected by U.S. embassies throughout the world and sponsored by other public and private organizations.

Partial funding is provided by the U.S. Department of State, the County of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles.
