CONDO SELLS ABOVE MARKET VALUE IN 4 DAYS... March 2009
This adorable little condo on the east side was listed at $299,000, about $10,000 above market value for the neighbourhood. Focusing on staging it for the demographics, I made it somewhat funky, quite colourful & a little bit whimsy. Within 4 days, it was purchased by a young couple at full asking price. This more than tripled the return on the homeowners staging investment.
Many realtors & homeowners have come to realize that staging a home is quite a necessary marketing tool. When a home is clutter free & spacious, showcasing beautiful things, it will automatically sell quickly & for more money.

Decorating the "Country" Way
We move into our third decorating category, which is one I don't see that often. Most of my work seems to dance between Traditional & Contemporary. Nevertheless, there are many homeowners that still love this cozy country feeling, bringing memories of Mom's apple pie & clean country air.
Country decorating originated many years ago and the homeowners would decorate their homes using the natural elements that were found in their culture & surroundings, i.e. Tuscan, French Country etc. This unique style suggests comfort, hospitality & the friendliness associated with country living.
Many of the elements in Country decor consist of:
- A well occupied space (in staging terms, I may call this cluttered) with larger scaled furniture
- Rich earth tones
- Wrought iron, copper, pewter & brass
- Wicker & rattan
- Wooden bowls, brightly painted ceramics & pottery
- Fabrics that are quite textured i.e. rough, coarse, dull, matte

Note the stools with rattan seats, copper pots & painted ceramic piece under the hood fan. There are lots of accessories giving this Country kitchen a cozy, warm feeling.
