September 2012 Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

With an estimated population of 970,252 people, San José is still one of the safest big cities in the United States in spite of the recent increases in certain types of crime. This is mostly due to our law-abiding residents who live harmoniously with their neighbors. Our Chief of police Chris Moore would agree that no amount of policing can make a community safe without the help of good residents willing to live by the rules of society and assist our peace officers with information when things go wrong. We have a great police department and our officers perform a difficult job.

Community Partners for Youth (CCPY) Mentor Training Program

The Community Partners for Youth (CCPY) mentor training program teaches committed adults to be effective mentors with at-risk youth through a structured community-mentoring process. They offer this training opportunity once a year - and it commences at the end of September followed by a couple of structured scheduled monthly sessions over the school year.

If you ever wanted to be part of a miracle, this is your opportunity! CCPY is a school-based non profit organization which strives to educate and support at-risk teens so they stay in school and learn to set and achieve their personal goals. Through intensive training and support, CCPY creates a mutually supportive community of youth and caring adults to help participants understand their underlying attitudes and beliefs, fostering a sense of accountability.

You are invited you to assist challenged teens to discover their potential by staying in school and breaking the cycle of poverty, crime, or drugs though life skills coaching, mentoring and role-modeling.
