July 2012 Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

The best part of summer months are the long days with plenty of sunshine to enjoy outdoor activities. It's going to be a fun and safe summer in Evergreen. I'd like to talk to you about some very important upcoming local events that promote fun and safety.

It's important to help educate our community on water safety and to make sure that all of our children have access to swim lessons. This life skill can be critically important and could save a life someday, which is why I'm happy to announce we were able to get funding included in the Mayor's June Budget Message to support West Coast Aquatics collaboration with the city park's department to provide swim lessons at Silver Creek High School. From beginners to adults, there is a class for every level of swimming and classes have already started and are ongoing throughout the summer. Go to www.westcoastaquatics.org for more information or call the Silvercreek Line (408) 658-9378.

The importance of knowing how to swim was further demonstrated at a recent council meeting where we had the opportunity to commend Evergreen resident Etimani Faiese for his heroic actions in saving a life on Friday, May 18, 2012. While Mr. Faiese was working on a service project through a program called "JustServe" at Lake Cunningham Regional Park he courageously came to the aid of a man drowning in the lake.
