Two NJ Women Hope to Inspire With The Kitchen Yogi
Two New Jersey women have translated their love of yoga and healthy living into a unique new product -- The Kitchen Yogi©-- cookie cutters inspired and designed in the shape of yoga poses. Each package comes with a five inch metal cookie cutter, as well as its own recipe.
"I have made shaped cookies all my life: With my mom as a child and now with my own daughter," says Karen La Du, a certified yoga instructor from Bay Head, NJ and one-half of the two-person team behind The Kitchen Yogi. "So my love for shape cookies goes back many years, as does my practice of yoga."
One day La Du was looking at drawings of people in yoga poses and thought, "Wouldn't a yoga cookie cutter be a fun way to bring yoga to a new audience through a new medium?" Hence, The Kitchen Yogi was born.
Final Product |
Cookie cutters currently come in three poses, says Amy Wolochowicz, La Du's business partner. Vrksasana (Tree Pose), which comes with a Molasses Honey Ginger Cookie Recipe; Sukhasana (Easy Seat) with a recipe for organic sugar cookies; and Paripurna Navasana (Boat Pose), with a gluten free cookie recipe.
"We truly hope that The Kitchen Yogi will bring a new awareness to those contemplating a yoga practice or taking the step of embracing their inner creativity," says La Du. "And be a tool to generate more interest in at-home baking and art-making time, bring a greater awareness of the mind-body connection, and inspire healthy choices and family time." The
Kitchen Yogi donates 10% of its profits to organizations that serve and educate about animals in need. To learn more and see where you can purchase the cookie cutters, visit www.thekitchenyogi.com |

Green Cleaning Company Saving the Planet; One NJ Home At A Time
Green cleaning is more than just using products that are better for the environment, says Susan Switalski, owner of Eco Maids NJ, located in Fairfield. "Typical household cleaners are indoor air pollutants. Our green cleaning system is designed to improve indoor air quality; protect the health and safety of our clients as well as their children and pets; and do it all in a sustainable manner that minimizes its overall environmental impact."
In fact, says Switalski, EcoMaids has developed a proprietary cleaning system, which guarantees their cleaning products do not contain many of the toxic chemicals in common household cleaners, such as formaldehyde, heavy metals, or phthalates.
Plus, they are Green Seal Certified, which means they have a green cleaning program that protects human health and the environment. "We don't use paper products to clean," Switalski says, "but microfibers so we can re-use them. We refill our bottles, too."
If you haven't switched from using harsh chemical cleansers in your home, you might want to consider the impacts not just to the environment, but to your health. Women's Voices for the Earth is a great advocacy group dedicated to teaching more about the importance of choosing your cleaning products carefully. This Month from Mindful Living NJ Insider: Holistic Moms National Conference in NJ
Holistic Moms Network announced today their 7th Annual Natural Living Conference to take place in Basking Ridge on October 23, 2010. The conference is held annually to share information on holistic living and parenting and draws between 300 and 400 attendees, exhibitors and sponsors.
This year's keynote speaker will be Sally Fallon Morell, author of "Nourishing Traditions" and founding president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, speaking on the topic of "Nutrition for Healthy Kids." In addition to the event's keynote speaker, a series of workshop sessions will be offered on a variety of holistic living and parenting topics.
"The Natural Living Conference brings parents together to learn about natural wellness options and approaches so that they can make informed, educated decisions for themselves and their families," says Nancy Massotto, founder of Holistic Moms Network, a national non-profit that connects parents interested in holistic living. "Connecting with hundreds of other parents who are passionate about good health and green living inspires people to make positive change in their lives - for their well-being and for the health of the planet," she added.
This event is open to the public, not just Holistic Moms members. Register here.
Mindful Living NJ will exhibit holistic health information and products at the conference. Be sure to visit our booth and say hi!
