Weather threatens prices of corn & other staples
Flooding throughout the midwestern U.S. has led to predictions of a poor 2008 corn harvest, causing price spikes in the commodities market amid fears of further price increases. According to the most recent USDA estimates, farmers will produce 11.735 billion bushels of corn, down from 13.074 billion last year and a May forecast of 12.125 billion.

Kikkoman Foods Inc. will open a research and development laboratory in Madison's University Research Park this fall, chief executive officer Yuzaburo Mogi said Friday.  Kikkoman is celebrating the 35th anniversary of making products in the U.S. The Japanese food company opened its first plant outside of Japan in Walworth in 1973.>>>

Now That's Using Your Noodle! 
At a time when some restaurant chains are putting the brakes on expansion plans in the face of penny-pinching consumers, Noodles & Co. is rolling out new stores at a pace of roughly three a month. By the end of the year, Noodles expects to grow by 35 to 45 restaurants from its current 181.  Noodles is betting that when consumers are more worried about filling their gas tanks than eating out, the company's upscale spin and $5.25 entrees will capture diners trading down from full-service restaurants.>>>
