Traffic for casual dining, a segment that includes Applebee's, Ruby Tuesdays and TGI Friday's, fell 0.3% in the first quarter of 2008. USDA forecasts winter wheat output up 17% The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts 2008 U.S. winter wheat production at 1,777,532,000 bushels, up 17% from 1,515,989,000 bushels last year, in its May Crop Production report. READ THE ENTIRE STORY
Winter wheat to be plentiful, but quality threatened
The May 5 Montana crop weather report showed that:
- Topsoil moisture is short or very short in about 54% of state farmland, compared to 12% a year ago.
- About 26% of the state winter wheat crop is considered poor or very poor, compared to 5% in early May last year. About 37% of the winter wheat is considered good to excellent so far this year, versus 73 % in May 07
- Winter wheat growth is a few weeks behind last year's pace, with 69 % considered green and growing, down from 92 % a year ago. READ THE ENTIRE STORY
