I. Latest on Hurricane Irene Recovery Efforts
I spent a good part of yesterday, 9/16/17, on the telephone learning what North Carolina coastal marinas have recovered from the effects of Hurricane Irene, which have reopened but still have some services compromised, and which are still completely out of action. In general, there has been impressive progress, and THE VAST MAJORITY OF COASTAL TAR HEEL FACILITIES ARE NOW BACK IN FULL, NORMAL OPERATION! There ARE exceptions, however, particularly in regards to fuel delivery and dockside power service. Check out our full report at: http://www.CruisersNet.net/latest-post-hurricane-irene-damage-report-on-north-carolina-marinas-91611 We have also published a special report on Hurricane Irene's aftermath in regards to North Carolina Outer Banks Marinas, AND some very interesting and potentially disturbing long term effects of the storm. In particular, there is some reason to believe that electrical service, which was restored in such rapid fashion, could be in jeopardy. DUE TO THE TIDES, of all things!!??? Equally interesting is the status of visitors to Hatteras Island (which, by the way, is only now once again a true island, as it last was in the 1800's). While the decision was made a few days ago to allow private cruising craft and landlubber visitors arriving by ferry back onto Hatteras, an argument is being made for the discontinuation of this practice, at least for the moment. It all makes for VERY INTERESTING READING!!! Check out the full story at: http://www.CruisersNet.net/post-hurricane-irene-conditions-on-north-carolina-outer-banks-as-of-91611

II. Full Fuel Price Reporting Service Re-activated From Southern Virginia, to the Western Florida Coastline
Those of you who have been following the Cruisers' Net for more than a year, already know that, during the summer months, we discontinue our fuel price reporting service for the Florida Keys, the St. Johns River and the Eastern Florida coastline, south of Stuart, FL. Well, this year. by popular demand, we have restored FULL fuel price reporting for ALL the coastal waters from southern Virginia to the Florida - Alabama border, earlier than usual.
We are more than happy to provide this expanded service. Just please remember that it requires a tremendous investment of person hours, so make use of this feature as often as possible.
May we also be so bold as to remind you anew, that, unlike some other nautical web sites, we do NOT depend on marinas and fuel retailers to call or e-mail us with their latest prices. We actually telephone each marina/dealer for which we report prices every week, to get the most accurate possible data.
And, in a very few instances, even after repeated attempts, we are not able to reach a facility. Again, unlike some other sites, we do NOT just leave last week's prices displayed. Instead, we insert the wording, "Unable to Obtain Info." We think this is a far better plan that allowing old data to remain in place.
Well, enough of that. Follow the links below to find out where to get the best deal to fill those hungry tanks:

III. "Life Aboard in the Keys: Where Last Names A re Optional"
The Salty Southeast Cruisers' Net is very fortunate indeed to have such a superb writer in the person of our very special Florida Keys correspondent, Captain Charmaine Smith Ladd. And, just to prove it, Captain Charmaine has recently filed a wonderfully heartwarming story which blends cruising in the Florida Keys, with up close and personal memories of 9/11. We cannot recommend this article too strongly to the entire cruising community. Give it a read at:

IV. Dredging Complete in AICW/Matanzas Inlet Intersection, Statute Mile 795
One of the two most problem plagued stretches along the Eastern Florida portion of the AICW, lies south of St. Augustine at the intersection of the Waterway and shallow Mantanzas Inlet. In fact, these waters have been one our Cruisers' Net's official "AICW Problem Stretches" for years.
Now, we are very happy to report that a dredging project has just been completed here. HOWEVER, some problems remain, at least for a little while longer. Check out the full story at:
