II. New Salty Southeast Cruisers' Net LPG/CNG Availability Directories Ready for Use
We are very proud to present the cruising community with yet another free service, for which you don't even need a user name nor a password. Effective immediately, the Net is now offering LPG/CNG Availability directories for all the coastal waters of the Southeastern USA, from the North Carolina - Virginia Line to Western Florida's Big Bend region.
Many, many thanks to the dozens of cruisers who offered earlier input as to what info should, and should not, be included in these directories. We took many of your suggestions, and the final product is far better because of your input!
Besides the direct links below, there are at least two ways to access these new Directories. Probably the best way is to locate the red, vertically stacked menus on the right side of all (except Chart View) Net pages. Now, let's say, for example, you were seeking a way to refill your propane tanks while in Georgia waters. You would then click on the "Georgia" selection of the red, vertically stacked menus, and a drop down menu will open. Now, just click on "GA LPG/CNG Availability" and it's off to the races.
Alternately, you can locate the blue, drop down menus at the top of all Net pages, and click on "Sp. Features." Then click, "LPG/CNG Availability." An index page will then open, where you can select your coastline of choice.
Literally hundreds of hours of research has gone into acquiring the necessary data to formulate our new LPG/CNG Availability Directories. We have telephoned and/or visited every marina we could possibly contact to obtain the most accurate data possible.
However, undoubtedly there were a few times when we did not receive the most complete of information from those with whom we spoke. As you peruse and later use these new directories, and, as some of you undoubtedly will, discover additional CNG/LPG sources, PLEASE LET US HEAR FROM YOU. We have designed these directories to make the addition of new data very easy. Probably the easiest way to provide input is simply to click the ""Comment on This Posting/Marina/Anchorage/Bridge" link below each LPG/CNG Availability directory entry.
Well, enough about that. Here are the direct links so that you can start using this new service without further delay: North Carolina LPG/CNG Availability: http://cruisersnet.net/category/north-carolina-lpg-cng-availability/ South Carolina LPG/CNG Availability: http://cruisersnet.net/category/south-carolina-lpg-cng-availability/ Georgia LPG/CNG Availability: http://cruisersnet.net/category/ga-lpg-cng-availability/ Eastern Florida LPG/CNG Availability: http://cruisersnet.net/category/e-florida-lpg-cng-availability/ Florida Keys LPG/CNG Availability: http://cruisersnet.net/category/fl-keys-lpgcng-availability/ Western Florida LPG/CNG Availability: http://cruisersnet.net/category/wf-lpgcng-availability/

III. Cruisers at Fort Pierce City Marina Don't Mess Around When It Comes to Waterway Cleanup (St. M. 966.5)
This seems to be the month for really striking photographs to arrive at the Salty Southeast Cruisers' Net. And, one really memorably example of this trend showed up this morning. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but let's just say these images show the removed of a "tiny little tire" from the waters around Fort Pierce City Marina (A SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS' NET SPONSOR)!
Don't fail to take a look at:

IV. Lockage Hours Curtailed on North Carolina's AICW Alternate Dismal Swamp Canal Route
Take my word for it, the 2011 summer has been getting drier and drier over the past several weeks. And, as often happens during times of below average rainfall, the Army Corps Of Engineers has reduced the opening schedule of the two locks which serve the Alternate AICW Dismal Swamp Canal Route. If you plan on traversing this historic and scenic waterway some time during the next several months, run, don't walk to:

V. New Configuration of Aids to Navigation On St. Augustine Inlet (Statue Mile 776)
I think we have published an item about the navigational difficulties of St. Augustine, Florida Inlet in four out of the last five of these Alerts. So, I know this is getting a bit tiresome, BUT Port Commissioner Captain Jay Bliss has just provided the Salty Southeast Cruisers' Net with an impressive aerial graphic showing the latest configuration of aids to navigation on this troubled seaward track. So, if you intend on trying to navigate this inlet anytime within the next several months, please check out:

VI. Washington, NC Will Hold "Pickin' on the Pamlico" Festival 8/20/11
It's a cruise of slightly better than 27 nautical miles from the AICW's path across Pamlico River, upstream to the charming community of Washington, NC (A SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS' NET SPONSOR). Over the years there have been many postings on the Cruisers' Net about why this side trip is a very good idea indeed, not the least of which is the very nice city docks along the downtown waterfront.
Now, cruisers plying Tar Heel waters during the second - third week of this August have more reason than ever to visit Washington, NC. Take a gander at the advance publicity for this community's "Pickin on the Pamlico" festival at:
