Greetings!
It's hard to believe we're near the end of another school year here at Burgundy. Our eighth-graders just wrapped up their musical production, South Pacific, and are currently enjoying their annual trip to Wilderness Adventure. In a few weeks, we'll welcome all 31 of them to our growing group of alumni.
Meanwhile, our first-graders have recently returned from their first trip to the Cove, our 4/5 students are prepping for the Medieval Festival, and we've welcomed two new sheep to the barn. As always, campus is abuzz with excitement and activity.
We know your lives are just as fast-paced, and we hope as you think back to your own 8th Grade production, your first trip to the Cove, or your 4/5 studies, you are flooded with memories of fun, adventure and peace. We invite you to relive those memories and reconnect with your Burgundy classmates at the annual Reunion Picnic on Sunday, June 3, where we will be honoring three special guests and retirees (pictured left to right, above):
- Catherine Davis, who has taught art and photography at Burgundy for 16 years
- Mary Lou Guthrie, who has served as a Middle School teacher, 4/5 teacher, Lower School resource teacher, faculty advisor to the Student Council and Director of BCWS in her incredible 35 years with Burgundy
- Marilyn Jemison, who began her Burgundy career in 1989 as an Early Childhood teacher before transitioning to 1st Grade and then the Library
We welcome all alumni, alumni parents, former faculty and staff, as well as family and friends to join us from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. to enjoy a catered lunch and a dip in the pool with all the people who made your Burgundy years so special. Click here for more information and to RSVP.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Jen Pusatere Director of Advancement jenp@burgundyfarm.org 703.842.0470

Austin Palmer '06 Honored with First Pitch at Nationals Game
Check out this link to see Austin Palmer '06 , a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholar, throwing the first pitch at the Reds-Nats game on April 15, which commemorated Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier in 1947. The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides a multi-faceted experience designed to mold minority students into dynamic leaders with a commitment to public service and Jackie Robinson's humanitarian ideals. The award is given to outstanding high school graduates who plan to earn a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
Of his first alma mater, Austin says, "Burgundy prepared me not only academically, but also socially for an ever diversifying world. I am truly appreciative of my time there."

Annual Giving: Alumni Challenge Alumni, we need your help! We are only $54,090 away from making our $250,000 Annual Giving goal for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. An anonymous supporter has offered to contribute $100 for each alumni who gives at least $20 to this fund by June 30, 2012. That's means if you send us just $20 to show your support for Burgundy, your gift will automatically increase 500 percent!
Call us today to make your contribution: 703.842.0470. Every dollar supports our students and faculty. |
Alumni Trivia
In light of the upcoming Olympics, we're wondering...
...Does Burgundy boast any Olympic athletes?
If you've ever competed in the Olympics, we want to hear about it! Email Michele McCabe (michelem@burgundyfarm.org) or post on our Facebook wall to share your stories!

Auction Update
Though we're still crunching the numbers for the 2012 Auction, we can begin to estimate our success. Looking at early figures, we know that thanks to your generous donations, bids and contributions, we have collected roughly $90,000 for financial aid!
To help put this number in perspective, know that the average amount of money raised each year (for the previous five auctions) is $82,510. These figures reflect the funds raised through bids and contributions, as well as all expenses (i.e., tables and chairs, auction management software, etc.). Each of these estimated $90,000 will directly benefit financial aid at Burgundy. Thank you!
