Dear Alumni, Parents, and Community Members: We hope that you have seen the article about Waldorf education that appeared on the front page of Sunday's New York Times. Integral to our education is a developmentally appropriate approach to students' engagement with electronic media. Studies show (and our graduates tell us) that our holistic approach, which focuses on the "how" and the "why", not just the "what" in all things, activates both hemispheres of the brain in a unique way and develops flexible, creative, resilient thinkers who feel equipped to take on all of life's challenges.Technology is one of the many tools our students learn to use. Through an age appropriate introduction to the vast tools that technology offers, we teach students to work with them responsibly and in balance with the rest of our curriculum. In middle school and throughout high school, students learn with fluency to use technology and multimedia devices in order to develop better research and communication skills. We are thrilled that Waldorf education is receiving this kind of national media attention (this piece was the most-emailed article at nytimes.com for most of the day yesterday), and we are proud to be at the forefront of this increasingly prominent educational movement, with all of you.We look forward to continuing the conversation about how we teach, and why our approach is both different and effective. Here is the link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/23/technology/at-waldorf-school-in-silicon-valley-technology-can-wait.htmlThank you.
