The Waldorf eUpdate is sent out each month to over 1,200 alumni, alumni parents, former faculty, and friends with news and information about what's happening at the Waldorf School of Garden City.

In each issue, we post a new trivia question that tests your  knowledge of Waldorf's "ins-and-outs."  How much do you know about the school's past and present?  A correct answer qualifies you to win a $25 Barnes & Noble gift certificate!

Readers of the Waldorf eUpdate should be advised that the Waldorf School of Garden City has no authority, sponsorship, or control over the individual websites and links to non-school activities that are private entities, separate, and apart from the Waldorf School of Garden City and its website.
Dear Alumni, Alumni Parents, and Friends:

Waldorf Completes its 63rd Year and Celebrates 51st Commencement

Waldorf Completes its 63rd YearThe Waldorf School completed its 63rd academic year on Thursday, June 10th. Continuing a Waldorf tradition, the school-year ended with a beautiful closing assembly where students performed recitations, songs and short plays for their teachers, families and friends.  Click here to read more.

Waldorf Celebrates 51st Annual CommencementIn addition, the School celebrated its 51st Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 11th.  The keynote commencement address speaker was Junior Class Co-Advisor and High School Handwork Teacher Jeff Katzman who shared with the graduates the importance of authenticity and remaining true to oneself, "Try to cultivate an awareness over time of that part of yourself that remains always who you are - that is constant, unchanging - sometimes fierce, sometimes frail, and yet always familiar, regardless of what scene or season shakes down around you."  Click here to read the story and to see pictures.

We just sent the summer 2010 issue of The News to the printer - so you should receive your copy in the mail very soon!  This year's summer issue includes a very fascinating alumnae profile on Zoe Stark '93 and a reflection on Waldorf education by Julian McBrowne '69.  Be sure to look out for the summer issue in your mailbox!

We send this publication to nearly 3,000 alumni, parents, and friends of the school twice a year.  Many thanks to our alumni class representatives for their help in collecting the "Alumni Notes."  To send a note for the next issue, contact your alumni representative or me at ingenitor@waldorfgarden.org.

News from Camp Glen Brook
Camp Glen Brook

The 65th summer camp season at Glen Brook is in full swing.  Be sure to read-up on all the latest adventures and activities at Camp Glen Brook by checking the Glen Brook News page.

Also, Family Camp is coming up on August 9th to 13th and it is a great way to relax in one of the most bucolic settings in all the world: New England in summer. Swim in Glen Brook's lake; hike the trails, read a book in the meadow in the shade of a sugar maple. And, all the while, be as well fed as anyone could hope to be by meals harvested from Glen Brook's garden and other local sources.  Click here for more details.

Monadnock Literary & Arts FestivalFinally, the Monadnock Literary and Arts Fesitval is coming this September 18th to 20th.  A celebration of the stories of place, this three day festival will feature writer discussions and workshops, artist presentations, live music and local food!  More information about this event can be found on the Glen Brook website.

May's Trivia Question:
At every commencement ceremony at the Waldorf School, a ceremonial mace is carried into the School Auditorium by the most senior member of the faculty.  Only two teachers have had the honor of serving as "mace bearer" in the 51-years of commencement ceremonies.  Can you name one or both of those teachers?

Answer: Mr. Al Tomlinson and Mr. Robert Weschler

Congratulations to Hans-Christian Brechbühl '78 for his response.

We received correct responses from numerous people:

Joshua Blumenthal '99
Shanna Braden '93
William Grochola '72
Elizabeth Chen Kwong '63
Mikel Magee (Current Parent '14 & '16 & Trustee Spouse)
Stephanie Mason '06
Orsolya "Orshi" Menges (Former Class Teacher)
Krista Helmke Palmer '77
Sophia Mavrikis Pisano '85
Steve Salamin '76
Tiffany Williams '89

We also received this response from Steve Salamin '76: "I believe the ceremonial mace was also designed and fabricated (metal and wood) by former shop teacher Mr. William "Bill" Kaufmann Jr."

June's Trivia Question:

The 65th summer camp season at Glen Brook is in full swing!  A myriad of activities - including chores - complete a camper's full-day.  One chore - in particular - is a perennial favorite among many campers (and Waldorf students too!).  The chore involves a large, commercial dish-washer that consists of a levered door and tray-conveyor.  Can you name this machine?

Send your response in an email - along with your name and graduating year - to ingenitor@waldorfgarden.org.

Good luck!
We love your feedback, observations, letters and news updates.
