Textbook Return Deadline
Bookstore

Students in grades 5-12 are reminded to return textbooks to the location designated by their local school district. Districts have become stricter about their textbook return deadlines; so please refer to any correspondences from your local school district regarding return dates. Failure to return books by the deadline often results in difficultly receiving textbooks for the following year. Students residing in New York City and districts that distribute their textbooks through our bookstore will need to return them to the bookstore by Friday, June 4th, so we may meet the return deadlines set by the local districts.

The health and safety of our students, and their families, is the primary concern at any school event. With that in mind, we ask that parents understand they have primary responsibility for supervising their children. Everyone in attendance will be asked to remain a safe distance from the bonfire and roasting marshmallows will not be allowed. Your support and respect for these guidelines will ensure that the Midsummer's Bonfire continues as a community event for many years to come.

Gala 2010 a HUGE success!
Close to 400 guests and supporters gathered on Friday, May 14th, at the Milleridge Cottage in Jericho, New York to celebrate "Reaching for the Stars," the Gala Celebration of the Waldorf School of Garden City.

Attendees enjoyed a dazzling night of celebration as distinguished members of the community were recognized for their dedication and commitment to the Waldorf School of Garden City. The overwhelming response from the community generated an event profit of $175,000 to benefit both School operations and the replacement of windows in the pre-school. A highlight of the evening was the silent auction that featured over 90 items ranging from handmade crafts to original paintings to fabulous vacations in the Caribbean, Greece, Colorado, and Florida.

Thank you to everyone who made this event such a tremendous success!

A Note from the Cafeteria
CafeteriaOur school cafeteria does a great job of preparing healthy, nutritious meals for our children.  Committed to providing fresh, mostly organic, and always healthy foods, free of pesticides, hormones and antibiotics, the cafeteria staff prepares over 750 meals per week entirely from scratch.

They welcome the assistance of parents who can offer an hour or two each week (even on a stand-by basis). Volunteers who help in our cafeteria receive a free meal.  If you would like to help with cooking or cashiering next school-year, please contact Aviva Gill (ext.126) in the cafeteria.

A Note from the Parent Association

Parent Association Co-ChairsAs we approach the end of the school year, the Parent Association wishes to thank all the parents who served as class representatives this year. Through your support of our school-wide events, the class teachers, and our student activities, you have made contributions greater than you can imagine.  The Parent Association appreciates all that you do to make our school a brilliant place to learn.

Finally, after serving three years as Co-Chairs of Waldorf's Parent Association, Maria Kramer, Marion Flomenhaft, and Carole Halvorsen are stepping down at the end of this school year. Our entire community is grateful to these three individuals for their dedication and steadfast support of the Waldorf School.

The Parent Association acts as a conduit for, and facilitator of, parent participation in our Waldorf School community. As an organization, the
Parent Association is chaired by two or three families chosen by the
Administrative Circle.

Beginning next school year, Sue Cheney, Nina Justman, and Daryl Smalls will be the new Parent Association Co-Chairs.

Thank you!
