A Good Office Practice Resource

The Medical Board of California recently published the Guide to Laws Governing the Practice of Medicine by Physicians and Surgeons. This 100-page guide addresses many of the questions asked frequently by CAP members and it is available in a PDF format that can be downloaded and printed at no charge. To give you an idea of the information included in the guide, here is a list of the sections as well as some examples of the content:

·    The Licensing Program
(Fictitious-Name Permits, CME Requirements, Prohibited Referrals, Outpatient Surgery)

·    The Enforcement Program
(Mandatory Reporting, Complaint and Investigative Process)

·    Allied Health Care Professions
(Scope of Practice for the MA, LVN, RN, NP, PA and Others)

·    Laws Relating to Controlled Substances
(Schedules of Controlled Drugs, Records, Inventory, Prescribing, Internet Prescribing)

·    Other Laws and Information Pertaining to the Practice of Medicine
(Medical Records, Reportable Conditions, Cases Reportable to the County Coroner)

To print your office copy, go to the Medical Board of California's website, http://www.caldocinfo.ca.gov/. Under "What's New," click on the "Guide to Laws Governing the Practice of Medicine by Physicians and Surgeons."
