WELL OF LIVING WATER
Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life. John 4:14
The truth of Jesus is not meant to be so obscure as to be impractical. To drink of Jesus is not to say in some mystical way, "I drink of You!", and then wait for some bolt of lightening to hit. If I want Living Water to flow abundantly in my life today, I must tap into the source. The water is the Word and to drink deeply, I must take it in, meditate upon it, own it, then apply it. Every seed of the Word I plant deeply within myself will be a drink I can enjoy on another day. Each Word I live in is really a cup of water that has accumulated over time with many other cups of water. They are never depleted and they only replicate and grow stronger with the years.
I have faced very difficult days in my life, wondered how I would get through them, then remembered something I read, something God revealed to me long ago. The memory of it washed over me like a cool breeze and I was able to drink of it again. It fed me once and it fed me again on that particular day.
Meet an old saint who has spent a lifetime savoring the Word of God and you meet a well of Living Water. They wear the Word on their sleeve and every thing they say seems to be seasoned with wisdom. Their well of water is deep and inexhaustible and those who spend time with them wonder, "How did they get that way?" It wasn't overnight and it wasn't by accident. It was the choice they made, day by day, to walk with the Savior and drink from Him at the banquet table of truth.
Man needs four things to live. Air, water, bread, and light. So it is in the spiritual, according to Morgan Campbell. The Spirit is the breath of God. Jesus is Living Water, the Bread of Life, and the Light of the world. In Him, I have everything I need to thrive no matter the environment in which I live.
I call upon every drink I've ever taken of You to sustain me today. May my life be a gushing spring. In Jesus' name, Amen
