NO UNFAMILIAR PLACE
So he came into a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. John 4:5
No place on earth was unfamiliar to Jesus. Though he may have never traveled there before as a man, he had created it as God. As he entered the town of Sychar, he would have remembered all that happened there as he watched from heaven thousands of years earlier. Jacob had fought the Amorites, taken over their plot of land, and given it to his son, Joseph. It was a piece of inheritance that superceded what he had given to his other sons. Why is this significant to me today? Because nothing new can overtake me that God has not anticipated. He is most familiar with the landscape. I am traveling this morning and don't have the time to explore this as deeply as I'd like but I trust you are comforted by this ~ God is not wringing His hands over anything that happens to us. He has promised us a way of escape and His provision through the wilderness. He knows exactly what we'll need to get through it. He not only sees the present, but the past and the future. The One whose hand I hold is a trusted God, never shaken by what may shake my soul.
My confidence is well placed. I stand upon the Rock of You. Amen
