NCPC Remembers Bailey Evans Bailey Evans

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bailey Evans, a valued allied industry member. Many of you probably know Bailey from his work at G&M Sales as well as from his involvement at the NCPC Conference & Trade Show in recent years and his participation in PAC events.

Bailey will be missed by his many friends in the pork industry. His obituary follows.

Robert Bailey Evans III, of Fayetteville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2009, in Duke University Medical Center from a pulmonary complication.

He was buried on Monday, July 20th, 2009.

Bailey is survived by his ever-loving wife, Colleen; forever grateful sons, Bailey and Zan, as well as his younger, adoring siblings, Hunter, Richard and Mary.

He attended Christ School, where he developed some of the most meaningful relationships of his life, which he held dear the entire duration. After high school, Bailey was educated in Greensboro at Guilford College, where he met his beautiful wife and yet another group of friends who meant the world to him.

His professional endeavors included founding and operating BBZ Marketing Group, a company out of Fayetteville, while consulting for G&M Sales of Goldsboro. Bailey enjoyed the time he spent with his colleagues and believed it to be an honor to work with such remarkable individuals.

Throughout his life, Big B influenced others with his charismatic personality, charming composure and insatiable thirst for knowledge. Golf and fishing were just a few of his hobbies, but in the conquest to master the riddle of golf and the cast of the fly, he found peace with his great buddies and the humble expression of nature. His real passion, however, was his family - his beloved wife, Colleen, and his boys - who were his inspiration.

Bailey will never be forgotten, and the spirit of his character will rest eternally in the minds and hearts of the ones he loved.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Duke University Medical Center, Paul W. Noble, M.D., Professor of Medicine - Chief, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care, 2079 MSRB II, 106 Research Drive, DUMC Box 103000, Durham, NC 27710.

Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
Duplin County Commissioners
Honor the Memory of Lois Britt

Duplin County's Board of Commissioners passed a resolution this morning honoring the life and memory of the late Lois Britt.  Through the resolution, the Commissioners voted to formally name the Duplin Agricultural Center as the Lois G. Britt Agricultural Center

Several people spoke before the Commissioners, citing Lois' many contributions to the region and the state.  Among the speakers were Wendell Murphy, a lifelong friend of Lois' and her former employer at Murphy Family Farms, and Ed Emory, who followed Lois as county director of the Cooperative Extension Service. They talked about her love of Duplin County and its citizens as well as her passion for agriculture and education.

The facility that now bears Lois' name houses the Duplin County's Cooperative Extension Service, Farm Service Agency, and Soil and Water Conservation.  It was completed in the summer of 2005, shortly after Lois died.

Lois had a 34 year career with Cooperative Extension, first working with 4-H, home economics and community development.  In 1978, she was the first female appointed to the position of County Extension Director in a large agricultural county.  Following retirement from the Extension Service, she continued working in Duplin County agribusiness as the vice-president for public relations at Murphy Family Farms. Later, she served as special assistant to the president at Murphy-Brown, LLC.  At the time of her death, she served on the NC Pork Council board of directors and was vice president of the National Pork Producers Council.

Her son, Ralph, was presented a copy of the resolution by the Commissioners.  He and his family will be providing a portrait of Lois that will be placed in the Agricultural Center.

Two weeks ago, Duplin County Commissioners named the auditorium in the Duplin Agricultural Center after Ed Emory, who will be retiring from Extension this fall.
