California Cell Tower Exposes the Limits of Wireless Ordinance
A Richmond, Calif., wireless ordinance meant to keep cell towers away from residential areas has inadvertently allowed one to be sited across from an elementary school, according to the Oakland Tribune. MORE
FCC Fines Antenna Owner for Lighting, Painting Violations
The FCC's Enforcement Bureau demanded a payment of $25,000 in November from Daniel Smith, licensee of station KANR in Belle Plain, Kan., and owner of an antenna structure, for various violations including failure to monitor the structure's lighting and failure to maintain the paint on the antenna structure for visibility, according to a Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture on the FCC's website. New Jersey Town Launches Moratorium; Other Town Says Not Yet
Looking to sack a wireless ordinance introduced in August, the Borough of Oradell, N.J., has implemented a four-month moratorium on cell site development, according to the Oradell Record and Town News. A city in California is looking at amending its wireless ordinance to require carriers to submit a master plan of proposed cell phone tower sites as part of an effort to make carriers more accountable and transparent, according to the Calabasas Patch. MORE
