Teen Tower Tech Dies in Fall
Tragedy has struck in a small Midwestern town. An 18-year-old technician fell from a cell tower on May 28, in Mountain Home, Ark., as he and three other crewmembers finished up work for the day on the structure. Medical personnel and sheriff's officers responded, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. MORE
The memorandum of understanding between FEMA and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service may have unintended consequences actually endangering air safety and requiring FEMA grantees to violate FAA regulations, according to comments filed by the wirless industry.  The rule changes may go beyond FEMA grantee towers to affect more than 112,000 FCC-licensed facilities, the associations said. Court Rules Verizon Short on Due Diligence
The Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division on May 24 found in favor of a zoning board that had rejected Verizon's application for variances for a 120-foot monopole cell tower, supporting the board's position that the carrier had not investigated alternative sites further from residential areas. FCC Moves on Streamlining Pole-attachments
The FCC moved quickly to make good on a promise to promote broadband wireless made in March's National Broadband Plan. Noting that current access to poles can be "slow, costly and mired in long disputes," the commission released an order streamlining the pole-attachment process. MORE
