Forum Dissects FCC 'Shot Clock' Ruling
The FCC either overstepped its regulatory jurisdiction, sticking its nose into local zoning proceedings, or it made a common sense judgment perfectly in line with the Communications Act, when it made its "Shot Clock" declaratory ruling. It all depended on which side was talking during a forum, hosted by the Maryland/DC Wireless Association in cooperation with the Virginia Wireless Association, Feb. 25, in Washington, D.C. MORE
Will Wi-Fi Compete With or Complement Cell Towers?
In an article dated Feb. 10, Bob Tedeschi of the N.Y. Times advised readers to dump cell phone networks if they didn't like the broadband service and opt for a Wi-Fi service that routes the calls over the Internet. In particular, he promoted Wi-Fi as an alternative for users dissatisfied with AT&T's iPhone service, calling it a "dial-and-pray proposition." MORE

The lawsuit, filed by Merrick Gables Association, made several claims, including unconstitutional taking, fraud, breach of contract, negligence and private nuisance, stemming from NextG Networks' installation of wireless communications equipment on utility poles. As the FCC prepares to present its National Broadband Plan to Congress on March 17, speculation about who will benefit has already begun. BirdBusters

Avian Avoidance System for Met Towers
The Firefly Bird Diverter from BirdBusters reduces bird collisions using motion, reflectivity and luminescent emissions. The Firefly's are installed up to 50 feet apart on the guy wires. The Firefly is affected by direct / in-direct wind movement - increasing the visibility of the tower/wires allowing the birds to alter their flight patterns.
Firefly's are made of UV-stable, impact-resistant acrylic. Phosphorescent and reflective sheeting alert the birds 24/7. www.birdbusters.com

WiMAX Cabling

Times Microwave Systems has developed a series of bundled cable products for WiMAX deployments using Alvarion BreezeMAX equipment. These systems require four small coaxial cables runs per sector (typically LMR-240). LMR-BC240-4 cable offers labor savings over individual runs. It also adds mechanical protection and eliminates the potential for crossed cables since each inner cable is labeled every six inches along its length. www.timesmicrowave.com
