GenachowskiFCC Chairman Pledges to End Delays in Tower Siting
Calling the issue "ripe for action," FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski (at left) announced his intention to eliminate delays in siting cell towers as part of the FCC's effort to push forward 4G deployment. Genachowski made the announcement during an address Oct. 7 before the International CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment meeting in San Diego.
 
"We at the FCC understand the many challenges operators face in standing up networks. We are ready to help you cut through red tape and overcome these hurdles," Genachowski said. MORE

Helix WindCompany Testing Wind Turbine To Power Cell Towers
Helix Wind will be testing a renewable energy solution for telecommunications companies on a global basis this fall. Test sites for the DNA strand-shaped turbine (at left) will be installed by November in the United States and West Africa, including Nigeria sites.
 
The vertical axis wind turbines are designed to lower the operating expenses of cell towers in remote locations.
Proposed NYC Law Focuses on RF Emissions
A New York City council member has introduced legislation that would require the city to monitor the RF radiation of cell phone antennae and report on emissions that exceed federal guidelines, according to Your Nabe.com. Council member Vincent Gentile, the bill's originator, said it was in response to the lack of oversight for RF emissions. MORE
3 People Die Erecting Ham Antenna
A couple in their 50's and their 15-year-old son were electrocuted in Palm Bay, Fla., this week when the Ham antenna they were holding and erecting touched a power line, according to Central Florida News 13. MORE

Texas AM Radio Station Fined for Unauthorized Tower
The FCC has slapped a $7,000 notice of apparent liability on John White, licensee of KOLJ-AM/Quanah, Texas, for unauthorized operation of a station at variance with his license, according to Radio Ink Magazine. MORE
Arkansas Oklahoma Wireless Association Holds Charity Golf Tourney
The Arkansas Oklahoma Wireless Association held its 4th Annual Charity Tournament at the beginning of this month in Tulsa, Okla. Nearly 90 golfers participated, raising  $25,000. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
Florida Wireless Association Raises $35,000 for Charity
The Florida Wireless Association's 4th Annual Charity Golf Classic, held on October 8, in Orlando, Fla., hosted 232 players and raised $17,500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and North Florida and $17,500 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Over the last four years, FWA has donated more than $100,000 to charities.
