Broadband Proposals Flood into NTIA
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) was slammed with requests for more than $28 billion from the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) in the first of three rounds of funding. The dollar amount is more than seven times the amount of funding available, according to Anna Gomez (left), NTIA deputy assistant secretary for communications and information and deputy administrator, who spoke at the PCIA Wireless Infrastructure Show held Sept. 22-24 in Nashville. Arcadia Towers Secures $5 Million in Private Debt Financing
After a year of trying to get funding through the banking community still reeling from last fall's credit market meltdown, Arcadia Towers decided to look at a private debt placement. The Cincinnati-based tower firm closed on $5 million in senior debt financing last week with the Maclellan Foundation to support the development of tower sites in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. MORE

Copper Pilfering May be Rising
After flirting with $2.94 a pound during August, copper prices have settled back to $2.69 a pound on news that demand in China was softening. It was down year over year from just above $2.80, and was well below the highs of around $4 a couple years ago. Copper thefts, however, appear to be rising again. MORE

Alleged Florida Copper Thief May Have Double Dipped
The Orlando Sentinel reports that authorities have linked a man who was arrested for copper theft at a Verizon Wireless cell tower to an additional copper burglary at an AT&T tower, which is less than a half-mile away from the original crime scene. MORE

PWA Golf Tourney Benefits Children's Hospital

Colorado Wireless Association Launches
The official launch of the Colorado Wireless Association will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Oct. 22 at the Hilton Garden Inn - Denver Tech Center, 7675 East Union Avenue, Denver. The keynote speaker for the Inaugural Luncheon will be Keith Paglusch, executive vice-president, Open Range Communications.
