Worker Falls to His Death from Cell Tower
A 22-year-old cell tower work fell more than 60 feet and later died at a hospital November 22 in Corona de Tucson, according to the Arizona Daily Star. MORE

Show Features Tower Workers Atop 2,000-foot Structure The show "World's Toughest Fixes" on the National Geographic channel is featuring Dallas-based Tower King II as it repairs a faulty television broadcast antenna atop a 2,000-foot tower in Sioux Falls, S.D.

White House Kicks Back FCC Backup Power Proposal In its analysis of the information collection regarding emergency backup power for communications assets, the Office of Management and Budget has "disapproved" of the FCC's rule requiring all cell sites to have backup power. The action by the OMB came because the agency failed to "seek and evaluate public comment on the reporting requirement" or show how it would process data on the 200,000 cell sites.

City Planners Feel Empowered to Enact Cell Tower Rule In what may be a harbinger of a new wave of city ordinances, a planning commission in Lake Elsinore in Southern California has decided to revive a telecommunications ordinance, drafted in 2007, that would dictate the appearance and location of cell towers, according to the Press-Enterprise, Riverside, Calif.

That Steeple Can't be too Tall and You Have to be Creative, Too Speaking of city ordinances, a year after limiting church steeple height, the City of Bloomington has decided that the rule isn't enough. Now the city is telling churches how to design their towers, imposing design requirements to ensure that the same bell tower design can't be repeated, according to the Star Tribune.

Seybold: Community Resistance to Blame for Absence of Wireless During FiresAs a resident of Santa Barbara, a wireless data expert recently saw the irony of community resistance to cell tower siting up close and personal.
