Tower Workers Exemplify Respect for Communications On July 28, a television news reporter, Abby Wuellner, responded to the base of a 2,000-foot TV tower in Fordland, MO, when fire departments from four communities sent rescuers after neighbors reported hearing screams from men working on the tower. The men, who were painting the tower, were yelling to coworkers on the ground to tell them they had dropped their two-way radio and were preparing to descend. They could not continue working without the radio communications link. MORE |

Lightning Plays Havoc with Public Safety Communications
It kinda makes you wonder what the grounding system was good for. Late in July, lightning struck a 180-foot-tall antenna in the municipal complex of Middlesex Borough, NJ. The bolt shot down the leg of the tower and hit the ground, knocking out emergency police communications for several towns in central New Jersey, according to MyCentralNewJersey.com. The ball of fire also disrupted telephone and Internet service to the public safety communications center. MORE |
Tower Company Gets Rancher's Goat Cell towers have been suspected of dangerous RF emissions, but have never been seen as a threat to goats.
The goats and cellular communications have peacefully coexisted since American Tower raised the cell tower on a farm in Hernando County on the Gulf Coast of Florida nine years ago, according to Tampa Bay 10 News. MORE |

Galena Mount Cell Site Controversy Plays Out in the Press
As the comment period nears its end on Aug. 28, the public is already expressing its opinions concerning the rejection of a cell site on Galena Mount in Idaho's Sawtooth National Recreation Area through strongly worded letters to the editor. In a letter to the Idaho Mountain Express and Guide, one woman writes about how upset she was to see an auto accident in the Sawtooth area and not have the ability to call for help.
