Tower for Country AM Station Falls Victim to Storm
Wind gusts of 80 mph knocked down the 222-foot radio tower of an AM radio station as a thunderstorm slammed into the panhandle of north central Texas on June 5, according to the radio station's website. The radio tower, operated by 1150 KREL, is in Quanah, about 200 miles northwest of Fort Worth. MORE

Crown Castle cell tower falls in North Carolina
The 800-foot cellular tower owned by Crown Castle International, fell in Browns Summit, NC, according to the Greensboro NC News & Record. MORE

The FCC has approved a Washington radio station's application to build new broadcast towers that will boost its signal from 5,000 watts to 34,000 watts during the day and 50,000 watts at night, according to the Seattle Times. MORE

Joint Venture Targets Rural Broadband Access Market
TierOne Networks, a Dallas-based Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) and Subcarrier Communications, owner/manager of telecommunications sites and services, have entered into a joint venture to build telecommunications sites in under-served markets to provide broadband internet access and related services.

Reliant Land Services has received a conditional use permit to construct a 150-foot cell tower for Verizon Wireless in St. Johns, AZ. The tower will have six antennas, two microwave dishes and include an equipment shelter. The application is conditioned on the structure being built to withstand a 90-mph wind load.

The Wisconsin Wireless Association (WiWA), a nonprofit professional association, will launch with a luncheon on July 9 at the Delafield Brewhaus, 3832 Hillside Drive, Delafield, WI.  Registration begins at 11:15 am.  The luncheon/keynote is 12:00-1:15 pm. MORE
