Miss. Governor Scraps Copper Theft Legislation
More than 20 states have passed legislation to combat the theft of copper. Although Mississippi is among them, its governor vetoed the legislation that was passed. Asserting that it would place an undue regulatory burden on the scrap recycling industry, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour vetoed similar legislation, which sought to require scrap metal dealers to maintain a record of purchases and provide it to authorities on request.

Auto Crash Spells End for Cell Tower
It happened in a blink of an eye. In southwestern suburb of Chicago, a two-car accident sent one careening into a ditch, striking a support cable attached to the cell tower, according to WBBM-TV in Chicago. What happened after that is like something out of a movie. MORE

Fourth Tower Approved for Adirondack Northway
With the Adirondack Park Agency's approval of the fourth new cell tower in the Adirondack Northway, Verizon Wireless has reached one-third of the 11 towers it has planned for the corridor, according to the Press Republican's web site.  MORE

Proposed Cemetery Cell Tower Sparks Outrage
A cell tower proposed in a cemetery has given a whole new meaning to the term "dead spot." The howls of dissent of those protecting the dearly departed brought a zoning hearing to life. MORE

Judge Orders Kan. County to OK Cell Tower
A federal judge ordered Douglas County to allow Verizon Wireless to install a cell tower, nearly a year after the County Commission ruled against Verizon's request for a conditional-use permit allowing the tower in Lawrence, KS, according to the Journal World. MORE

Man Found Dead, Suspended from Texas Cell Tower
No one seems to know why he was on the tower, but a man was found dead this week, suspended from a cell tower in Austin, TX. He was 30 feet above the ground on a 125-foot tower, according to local TV news reports. MORE

ReliOn Snags Healthy Investment
With hydrogen fuel cells still in their infancy, the industry will continue to depend on cash infusions to mature. Two new investors have poured $23 million in Series C equity financing into ReliOn, provider of fuel cell solutions for backup power applications. The new investors are the PCG Clean Energy & Technology Fund of La Jolla, CA, and Robeco Clean Tech Private Equity II, Rotterdam, Netherlands. MORE

American Tower Sees Positive First Quarter
American Tower reported an increase of 8.4 percent in total revenue to $382.2 million in the first quarter. Adjusted EBITDA also increased 10.9 percent to $262.5 million. MORE

SBA Sells $550M in Convertible Senior Notes
SBA Communications said this week that it will close on $550 million in 1.875 percent Convertible Senior Notes due 2013. Initial purchasers of the original $500 million offer elected to exercise their over-allotment option, according to the company, and purchased an additional $50 million in Notes. MORE

PA Wireless Assn to Hold Rev. G Seminar
The Pennsylvania Wireless Association will present a regulatory seminar on May 21 at the Doubletree Hotel in Plymouth Meeting, PA. A panel discussion on the implementation of Revision G of the TIA-222 code for antenna towers and support structures and a follow on presentation concerning ANSI and its effect on telecommunications industry. The Texas State Wireless Association's 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament in Dallas raised $40,000. MORE

Money Raised for Make-A-Wish Foundation
Florida Wireless Association Golf Tournament raised $15,000.00 for the Make a Wish Foundation. The donation helped sponsor Alexander Henry and Callie Williams.
