SBA Comm. to Acquire TowerCo Towers
SBA will acquire as many as 430 wireless communications towers owned by TowerCo for as much as $193.5 million. SBA expects to fund the purchase with cash on hand and a draw from its $335 million senior credit facility. TowerCo will continue its business of developing, owning, leasing and acquiring communications towers.

Is Alternative Lighting the Answer to Tower-Related Avian Deaths?
With towers being blamed for as many as 50 million birds deaths annually, Joelle Gehring, Ph.D., a biologist with the Michigan Natural Features Inventory in Lansing, MI, and other conservation groups are set on resolving the problem, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

Falling Towers Make Big Noise in California
A single point failure caused the new KFI tower to fall March 15 in La Mirada, CA, according to the Orange County Register. While nobody was killed on the tower, one worker was knocked from the construction platform when the structure fell.

Cell Towers -- Afghan Carriers Face Catch 22
Since the Taliban attacked 10 cell towers in Afghanistan causing $2 million in damage, four major mobile phone companies began cutting nighttime service across the southern part of the country, according to the Associated Press. As a result, a quarter million customers, who have no other telephones, have expressed their anger.

American Tower Enters into $325.0 Million Incremental Term Loan Commitment
American Tower announced late last month that it has entered into an incremental term loan commitment for $325 million of additional borrowing capacity pursuant to its existing senior unsecured revolving credit facility. Together with available cash, the money will be used to repay $325 million of existing indebtedness.

ILSWA Mark Turkula Family Foundation Plans Fundraising Event
Mark Turkula, a project manager working for Nextel, T-Mobile and US Cellular, was killed in a snowmobile accident.

The Illinois State Wireless Association, together with Mark's friends, carriers, vendors, general contractors and suppliers, formed a committee to raise funds for the Mark Turkula Family Foundation.

A benefit for Mark Turkula's family has been planned at Itasca Country Club, 400 E. Orchard St, Itasca, IL on Sunday, May 18, 2008, 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Admission is $25 for adults; children will be admitted free. The benefit will serve food and will provide a cash bar and live entertainment. A raffle and a silent auction will be used to raise additional money. Several items to be auctioned include a Chicago Bears Richard Dent autographed football and Bernard Berrian autographed jersey. Additional auction items include golfing at Premier Resorts, lodging at a condominium in Florida and White Sox baseball game tickets.
