Court to Review Backup Power Mandate
On Jan. 15, 2008, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia granted a motion by CTIA - the Wireless Association for expedited review of its appeal of the FCC's backup power order.  MORE

Copper Thieves Caught Red-handed
It doesn't happen often, but two men were arrested Jan. 16th caught in the act of attempting to steal copper from a cell tower, according to WTVF out of Nashville.

 Police allege that the two suspects, Rodney Hall and Robert Brown, climbed hundreds of feet into the air to reach the copper. The men are also suspects in at least two cell phone tower thefts in Rutherford County. They have been charged with attempted felony theft. MORE



Tower Crashes Down During Repairs
While undergoing repairs, a 2,000-ft. broadcast tower collapsed Jan. 10, south of Little Rock, Ark, according to Arkansas Business.com. MORE


Joplin Tower Gets Iced
Cavalry Media Services is still picking up the pieces and talking with insurance companies after an ice storm in December took down its 312-foot tower in Joplin, Mo., Ice accumulated on the tower, which broadcast radio station KJML on 105.3 FM, and broke two of the tower's three legs, causing the structure to break in half. Frustration Grows Over Northway Cell Service
After money was earmarked in the New York State legislature and commitments were made by a cellular carrier and a park agency, cellular service, not even temporary cell service, has not made it to the Adirondack Northway Corridor. And the voices of protest are rising. MORE

NYSWA to Hold Tradeshow
The NYSWA has announced its 2008 trade show to be held March 20 at Saratoga Hotel and Conference Center (www.thesaratogahotel.com) in Saratoga Springs, NY., which will featured exhibitors, educational sessions and guest speakers.

Biby to Speak at MDDCWA Breakfast
Rich Biby, P.E., publisher of AGL Magazine and tower industry CEO, will speak at the February Breakfast Event of the Maryland DC Wireless Association (MDDCWA) from 8 am to 10 am on February 14, in Baltimore at the BWI Airport Marriott. He will address the new FCC Requirement for eight hours of backup power at cell sites.
