Creating Margin is an important discipline

by Jim Herrington

The pace seems to keep increasing.  The commute seems longer and harder.  The demands multiply.  It seems that we spend less time with our family and when we do, fatigue and distractions keep us from really being present.

In the face of that kind of reality, it's counter-intuitive to accept an invitation to do one more thing ... especially a thing that's a three day weekend.  Yet, I want to extend an invitation to you to do the counter-intuitive thing and join us for the April 24-26 Faithwalking retreat.

Creating margin in your life to renew your spirit, to hear from The Spirit, and to reflect deeply on the frantic rat race that becomes "life" for so many of us - is, by the testimony of most who participate in Faithwalking - exactly what is needed.  Faithwalking can be that margin.
  • Solitude and an opportunity to encounter God deeply.
  • Excellent biblical teaching that speaks to the core issues of life.
  • Long conversations with others who face many of the same issues you do.
  • Deep self-examination about the purpose and impact of your life.
You'll get this and more in a Faithwalking retreat.  In this e-newsletter, you'll read a testimony from one of our most recent participants, Shawn McGlothlin,  and get a snippet of the excellent teaching from Trisha Taylor, one of our teaching team leaders.

Create some margin for yourself and join us for the April retreat.  Scholarships are available.  The setting is beautiful.  The food is excellent.  You'll find solace for your spirit.
Truth telling leads to personal transformation ...
by Trisha Taylor Christ on CrossMost of us who have been Christians for very long have developed some level of personal mastery around the teachings of Jesus. We know what Jesus wants us to do and we do it most of the time.  It's even pretty easy for us-we don't even think hard about it any more.  At the same time, we have some level of disobedience in our lives.  There is some place where we know the clear teachings of Jesus and yet we don't obey.

Sometimes that disobedience is just out and out rebellion.  Other times it exists because people have a large capacity to live in denial - we are inauthentic about what is really happening in our lives.  Living in a culture of "image management" we construct a world in which we pretend that we are not being disobedient.  Even more often, if you scratch beneath the surface in conversation, you'll discover that the habitual disobedience grows out of years of trying to obey but experiencing failure after failure.  Ultimately, that person becomes resigned and cynical about things ever changing in this area of their lives.

My Faithwalking Experience ...
by Shawn McGlothlin
Christ on CrossShawn participated in the most recent Faithwalking.  He is 38, married and father to three young children.  He is employed at Texas Instruments and is a member at Grace Community Bible Church in the Richmond area.

Faithwalking was a significant event for me.  This was the best conference/retreat that I have ever attended. Organized, engaging, personal, Biblically-based, challenging, full.  My brain was so tired when I left Sunday afternoon that I think my neck is sore from the extra weight of information shoved into it. Interestingly though, while my brain was tired, my heart is still overflowing from the same overload - it doesn't feel tired, but more like finding a room full of treasure and not sure where to start cataloging and organizing.

I got two powerful things from the retreat.
