Adventure, Discovery, Achievement. The 2008 Tuckamore Festival promises an exciting journey through familiar and yet to be discovered masterpieces. Atlantic Canada's foremost chamber music event for professional and emerging artists offers two weeks of evening and daytime concerts, master classes, outreach activities and much more! Each season the Tuckamore Festival draws increasing numbers of enthusiastic supporters and audiences. The combination of great music, youthful vigor, immense talent, and riveting performances is a winning one.
2008 Artists include: The Miró Quartet: Daniel Ching and Sandy Yamamoto, violin, John Largess, viola and Joshua Gindele, cello Violinist Stephanie Sant'Ambrogio and violist Rennie Regehr return to teach and perform at this year's festival.
The Duke Trio composed of Newfoundland native Mark Fewer, violin, Thomas Wiebe, cello and Peter Longworth, piano. (see photo left)
EVENING CONCERTS
Don't miss the adventure of discovering hidden treasures! The Duke Trio will perform Trio in A minor, op. 40 by Austrian composer Carl Fruehling, Trio in F sharp minor by Armenian pianist and composer Arno Babadjanian, and Café Music by American musician and mathematician Paul Schoenfield. The Piano Trio in G major ("Gypsy") by Haydn, famous in his day for experimenting with musical genres, will set the pace. (Tues, Aug 12, D.F Cook Recital Hall at 8 pm) Transcendental Beauty, The Duke Trio with Nancy Dahn, violin, Rennie Regehr, viola, Vernon Regehr, cello and Timothy Steeves, piano.
Luxuriate in the legendary lyricism, colourful harmonies and quixotic moods of Schubert's Fantasy for Piano Duet and his Cello Quintet in C major, op. 163, a work of transcendental beauty. Thrill to the  Atlantic Canada premiere of a new work for violin and piano by R. Murray Schafer, commissioned in part by the CBC. (Thur, Aug 14, D.F. Cook Recital Hall at 8 pm)

Great solo and chamber music performed by our gifted Young Artists as they develop the skills for professional careers. (Sat, Aug 16, Petro-Canada Hall at 8 pm) Trial and Triumph. Explore the austere and haunting sounds of String Quartet no. 7 in F-sharp minor by Shostakovitch. Both he and Czech composer Ervin Schulhoff endured denunciation by fascist regimes and triumphed in that their music is played today. Discover Schulhoff's Duo for Violin and Cello and rediscover the glorious Piano Quintet in A major, Op.81 by his famous compatriot Dvorak. (Wed, Aug 20, D.F.  Experience joyful folk elements in Haydn Quartet op. 77 no. 1, revival tunes in Charles Ives' First Quartet and spirituals in Dvorak's String Quartet in F major, Op. 96 ("American").
