Honest Tea

January 2012

Newsletter Top
Greetings, and Happy 2012!
We are honestly excited about the new year, and while we're not big on New Year's resolutions, we are resolved that 2012 will bring new products and more opportunities for you to experience HONEST's line of organic beverages.

2011 was an exciting year for us.  Our transaction with Coca-Cola helped us expand to new markets and reach many more consumers. We launched five new varie-teas including Mocha, Mint, and Cherry CocoaNova, Classic Green Tea, and Zero Calorie Lemonade, handed out millions of samples at thousands of events around the country, expanded our Honest Cities social experiment, and published our second Mission Report "Keeping It Honest" on Tumblr.  Our creative team has put together a fun graphic to share some interesting facts from 2011 - see below!

We did experience some growing pains, as described in a recent column in The Washington Post, but are fired up about the year ahead.  As always, we hope you will continue to help keep us honest.  We've listened to what you've had to say since we began 14 years ago, and we continue to welcome your thoughts.  If you are on Facebook, please join our community, and thank you for your commitment to our brand and our mission.  Best wishes for health and prosperi-tea in 2012!

Honestly yours,

flying v + nutrition facts panel

Have you noticed something different on our Nutrition Facts panel?  In addition to new artwork on our labels for plastic-bottled Honest Tea and Honest Ade, we've updated the panel to reflect that 1 bottle=1 serving (rather than 8oz servings, and "about 2" for the servings per bottle).  No change in taste, no change in formulation--we've just chosen to present the information for the whole bottle, rather than per 8oz serving.  We've also changed the graphics for the caffeine levels in our teas to be more prominently displayed with clearer coffee cup comparisons. Check out the refreshed, and refreshing, new labels on your local store shelves, or visit www.honesttea.com/products to see each individual new label for your favorite HONEST beverage!

I2011, we introduced CocoaNova, our first foray into cacao-infused beverages that deliver the great taste of cocoa but without the calories and sugar you might expect. CocoaNova contains the cocoa antioxidants and theobromine naturally found in dark chocolate, and with only 50 calories per bottle.   Look for Mocha, Cherry, and Mint CocoaNova wherever you buy glass-bottled Honest Tea--it's a great way to treat yourself without breaking New Year's 'healthy eating' resolutions!

Just Label It!

Honest Tea, along with many others including Stonyfield Farm, supports the "Just Label It" campaign which is petitioning the Food and Drug Administration for greater transparency in food labels.  Honest Tea doesn't use any Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOS) and supports the idea that more transparent labeling will help consumers make clear choices. In the spirit of holiday giving, we decided to share an often-requested recipe for First Nation Peppermint.  It may be gone from the shelves, but it isn't gone from our hearts.  Give it a try and tell us what you think on our Facebook wall, send us an email at sethandbarry@honesttea.com, or write us a letter--we love hearing from you!

First Nation Peppermint

1 tsp dried peppermint

1 tsp of cane sugar, or the sweetener of your choice

8 oz hot water

Optional: a few drops of agave

Tools needed:

1 mug, preferably ceramic or other heatproof material

1 tea strainer

Put the dried peppermint in a ceramic, or other heatproof, mug.  Pour in 8 oz of hot water, and allow to steep for 3 minutes.  Strain the beverage to remove peppermint.  Add cane sugar, or substitute a few drops of agave if you prefer, for a touch of added sweetness.  Chill by pouring over ice.  Savor, and enjoy!
