At Honest Tea we can't stop

PLANTING THE SEEDS FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

At Honest Tea, our mission includes not only creating healthy beverages but contributing to a healthier environment. One recent step we've taken is to work with local leaders to launch Bethesda Green, a model for sustainable living in our hometown headquarters of Bethesda, MD. This month we were joined by state and county officials to open the first green business incubator in the state of Maryland with an official "invasive species vine cutting" - instead of wasting synthetic ribbon material. With a growing need for green jobs and solutions to our nation's environmental challenges, we're excited to be part of the solution. The entrepreneurs at Bethesda Green's incubator are stepping up to the challenge -- whether it's developing a technology to assess the environmental impact of consumer products, Savenia LLC, a rain barrel company, Aquabarrel, that helps us capture a precious natural resource, or one of the other emerging businesses, these incubator companies will be part of the solution to helping create an environment that sustains. FAIR TRADE MONTH

We've all heard the term "vote with your dollars," but what does it really mean? At Honest Tea we know that choosing organic, Fair Trade certified tea is voting for healthier, sustainable beverages in the marketplace. October is the official Fair Trade month, and as the first Fair Trade certified bottled tea, we know how important it is to support the folks along the supply chain, all of whom help bring our products to market. Your purchases (your vote!) of our Fair Trade certified beverages help support the tea gardens which use the Fair Trade funds for things like a computer learning center or bio-gas stoves, and really do make a difference. DON'T JUDGE A DRINK BY ITS BOTTLE

It's not always easy leading the pack - Honest Tea's been on the leading edge for eleven years now, and we're still learning. As we mentioned in our last newsletter, our new PETE-1 bottle received a lot of attention for its lighter footprint, new design and the large dome underneath. We assured our loyal fans that we weren't trying to sell air - like those snack bags that are puffed up but only have about 4 chips inside. The bottle really is a step, or sip, as we like to say, in the right direction. There's 22% less plastic than our previous bottle, which will help save a million pounds of resin a year, and 500 lbs less weight in our trucks. With your help, we learned that we need to do a better job of communicating why we make the decisions we do. HONEST CONSUMER OF THE MONTH

There's nothing wrong with wolfing down a bottle of Honest Ade, but this picture takes the term to a new level. Our consumer of the month goes to Kirstin Aamodt and her family pet, Danali, who couldn't resist our Honest Ade Cranberry Lemonade. Although Danali is known for her playful stealing habits, Kirstin was surprised that he had an eye for her Honest Ade, but not us. We know how hard it is to resist the low sugar refreshment. Lucky for Kirstin, she was able to retrieve her bottle and enjoy her favorite Honest Ade. We'll be sending Kirstin and Danali a case of Honest Ade to enjoy, and we're sure they'll play nice, and share.

DRINK TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT

Here's a great reason to reach for your Honey Green Tea. A new study published by the University of Glasgow shows that tea may help reduce the incidence of heart disease. The study, published in the journal Food Chemistry, shows that both green and black tea help prevent fatty deposits from building up in your arteries. Lab tests conducted over 12 weeks showed that drinking the equivalent of one cup of tea each day had a "remarkable" reduction in fatty build-ups - as must as 79 - 96 percent!
