IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN

... that's why Greenopia.com created a site to help shoppers make daily decisions to eat, shop and live green - from fast food and cars to now, beverages. On Wednesday, Greenopia announced their list of the six most eco-friendly beverage brands and Honest Tea was at the top.

Hones Tea Newsletter April 2009

Greenopia ranked 23 of America's most popular mass-market beverages based on its 4-Leaf Rating System to disclose and evaluate the brand's environmental and health characteristics. We're delighted to be the only brand to earn a Greenopia 4-Leaf Rating and according to their review: "Honest Tea is, without a doubt, the greenest large beverage company we have come across; kudos to them." BE SMART. GET HONEST.

Honest Tea and General Electric are working together to promote their products for a New York exclusive at Duane Reade stores. Buy two bottles of certified organic Honest Tea and get $1.50 off a GE Energy Smart ® compact fluorescent light bulb. Energy Smart CFL bulbs are an easy way to help reduce household energy costs - they use up to 75 percent less energy and last 6-10 times longer than incandescent light bulbs. During Earth Month, we will be at Duane Reade stores throughout the city sampling refreshing Honest Tea and Honest Ade while educating consumers on ways they can manage their impact on the environment.

TWO MORE TOP-SELLERS GO FAIR TRADE

Hones Tea Newsletter April 2009

Honest Tea was the first company to introduce a Fair Trade bottled tea in 2003 and now we're continuing the tradition by converting two of our best-selling varieties - Black Forest Berry and Moroccan Mint Green Tea - to Fair Trade. Fair Trade certification ensures that workers earn a fair wage and that the suppliers meet TransFair USA's strict criteria for equitable pay and safe working environments. Both varieties were part of the original five Seth and Barry pitched to Whole Foods back in 1998 and today we are proud to brew them with Fair Trade Certified™ ingredients, like hibiscus in Black Forest Berry and organic green tea leaves in Moroccan Mint. Be on the lookout for bottles with the Fair Trade Certified label, a simple way for consumers to know that their products were produced under socially, economically and environmentally sustainable conditions. Now that's a sip in the right direction...

p.s. Speaking of Whole Foods, don't forget to visit your local store between now and April 14th to support the Whole Trade Drive. Over the next 11 days, pick up any of our nine refreshing Fair Trade Certified™ varieties (in 16, 16.9 and 64 fl. oz. bottles) and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Whole Planet Foundation.

HOT DOGS AND TEA: YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT?

That's right baseball fans, opening day is right around the corner and we can't think of a better way to enjoy America's favorite pastime than with a refreshing bottle of Honest Tea or Honest Ade. Red Sox Nation, ever wish you could chug a cold Honey Green Tea while sitting atop the Green Monster? Now you can! This season, our starting lineup of organic, antioxidant-rich iced teas and thirst quenchers (in plastic bottles) will be available at concession stands throughout Fenway.

Hones Tea Newsletter April 2009

p.s. Our TeaEO, Seth, was born and raised in Boston and is still a lifelong Red Sox fan (to find out how he got his "Fenway MBA," click here), but Honest was built in Bethesda, MD, which makes us "the official tea of the Washington Nationals." Nats fans, looking for a Peach White Tea to whet your whistle while cheering on Ryan Zimmerman? You're in luck; Honest Tea will be sold all over Nationals Park. Also, be sure to get to Sunday home games a little early since our Honest Street Team will be at the front gate giving away free samples.

MAKING HONEST INVESTMENTS
Before Seth co-founded Honest Tea, he was part of the sales and marketing team at Calvert Group, America's largest family of socially-responsible mutual funds. Earlier this year, Seth reconnected with Calvert when he joined the board of the Calvert Foundation, a nonprofit that supports underserved communities by helping families pull themselves out of poverty. The foundation invests in nonprofits, microfinance institutions and social enterprises, empowering them to address critical social problems. "I've known Seth for a long time and truly value his ideas and sense of responsibility for the community and the environment," said Wayne Silby, founder and chairman of the Calvert Foundation.

GO ORGANIC!

Last month, The Organic Institute (a non-profit founded by the Organic Trade Association) launched a national campaign to educate families on the benefits of going organic, from personal to environmental health. In addition to informational TV and radio ads, the program's web site features consumer-friendly tips on nutritious foods, clean water, food safety and farming practices as well easy to-do lists for incorporating organic products into your daily routine. Here are a few of our favs:
  1. Teach your kids to spot the organic label
  2. Learn how organic farming reduces pesticides
  3. Pack one all organic lunch at least once a week
  4. Enjoy higher nutrient levels with organic food

To get started, pick up some Honest Tea, Honest Ade or Honest Kids and visit the campaign's official web site.
HONEST CONSUMER OF THE MONTH

Hones Tea Newsletter April 2009

Almost from the day Honest Tea began selling organic bottled tea, enthusiastic consumers have been sharing their experiences with us - and we love it! Your letters, postcards, phone calls and e-mails make us smile (most of the time!).

This month's winner is... Mike Leotta, a webmaster at Google who just happens to be HUGE fan of Honest Tea.

Via Twitter (if you aren't following us @Honesttea, you should) Mike told us: "I'll be honest. I've probably consumed 1,000 bottles of your delicious tea, but I haven't purchased a single one. Thanks Google!" Yes; Mike gets his Honest Tea fix for FREE at Google's cafeteria. Talk about employee benefits!  He said his favorite variety is Just Green (but we just saw him enjoying a cold Cranberry Lemonade during one of Google's Food Fairs). Wish you had Honest Tea and Honest Ade at the office? Ask. If you persuade your company to get HONEST, let us know and we'll send you hat.

DID I REALLY JUST SEE THAT?
"Honest Tea for an Honest Woman: Just a Tad Sweet" is one celebrity sighting that particularly sparked our interest... it appears that former O.C. star Rachel Bilson is in fact an "Honest Woman" as she was spotted with a bottle of our organic and Fair Trade Peach White Tea while on her way to the airport.

She's not the only one though: InTouch Weekly Online highlights some of our other famous fans here.
