Congratuations to Our Hawaii Competitors!
Hawaii
Many Region 11 members escaped the "real world",
and spent time in paradise
in early November.

Hawaii was so beautiful - everything you'd hope it would be... the amazing flowers, the radiant sunsets on the beach, the warm sun and warm water... and of course, great barbershop!! It was sooooo hard to come back home!

Speaking of great barbershop, about 300 Region 11 members (or more?) got to hear some of the best barbershop ever put on stage. Did you hear that Melodeers Chorus was the first to ever break the 3,000-point mark by earning 3023 points?!!  It was magical to watch! And our new International Quartet Champion is Moxie Ladies, with 4 brand new queens!

Our Region 11 competitiors did a wonderful job representing us in Hawaii!  Spirit placed 17th in their first contest together - we can't wait to watch you grow together as a quartet! Shimmer! was "thisclose" to making the Top 10 again. They TIED for 10th place and were only ONE point away from 9th place - in other words, 1 point separated 3 quartets. You done good, girls - and you'll get in there again next year!

Channelaire sang beautifully on their way to 13th place in another very competitive chorus contest. And Voice Unlimited was a small, but mighty presence on the stage, placing 29th as our wildcard chorus! Congratulations to both choruses!!

Several Region 11 and Region 21 members were also thrilled to share the stage during the Showcase with our friends from the Japanese Chorus. Singers represented Channelaire, South Valley Sound, Agoura Hills Harmony, and Harborlites choruses.

Region 11 Competition News!
March 26-29, 2009 | Bakersfield, CA

RISER CONFIGURATION CLARIFICATION
The 1st Chorus-pondence sent to everyone in October incorrectly stated that choruses who select the STANDARD riser configuration (larger choruses) will be competing first in the contest. For the 2009 contest, choruses selecting the ALTERNATE riser configuration (smaller choruses) will compete first. This same configuration will hold for 2010, and then for 2011 and 2012, we will go back to the larger choruses going first and so on every two years.

CHAMPION CHORUS and QUARTET PHOTOS
For 2009, Lilley Photography will switch the regular photo order for the "trophy" photo order at the request of the winning chorus and quartet, if you will tell Wyeth Lilley at the time the "trophy" photo is taken. That is if you don't want BOTH photo orders.

GUEST AETs VS. AUDIENCE PASS
Remember, if you have guests who wish to sit with your chorus or quartet, they will need to purchase an All-Events Tickets with your chorus. The Audience Pass tickets will entitle the person holding that ticket to a seat in a separate, designated area of the auditorium.

WARM-UP ROOMS IN THE CONVENTION CENTER
The Convention Center is remodeling the lobby area and we will not be able to use one of the usual warm-up rooms for the chorus contest. As you enter the lobby, both chorus warm-up rooms will be on the left ... the Truxton Room (accessed through the hallway leading to the hotel) and the Potato Room (accessed through the lobby staying to the left as usual). The only restrooms available to those choruses using the Truxton Room will be the lobby restroom.

NO BUSES ON FRIDAY
We will not have an audience bus available on Friday for the quartet contest, so you will need to carpool as much as possible.  Transportation will be provided for the Top 5 quartets from the auditorium back to the DoubleTree.

CHORUS and QUARTET DVDs
We are holding the line on prices for the DVDs and CDs for 2009 -  $30 for the original DVD, extra copies at $15 and extra copies of CDs at $10. REMEMBER ... taking these back to your chorus or quartet and making copies is an infringement of the copyright.  In order to defray the ever-increasing costs of Regional contests, please purchase copies legally by placing your order with your chorus or quartet.

CHORUS AND QUARTET BRIEFINGS -
BOTH ON THURSDAY!

The Chorus Briefing will be held on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the DoubleTree, followed by the Quartet Briefing at 7:30 PM, so those involved in both will not miss one or the other briefing. Please plan to be there on Thursday (and reserve a hotel room) so you will not miss this important event.

MIC TESTING CHORUS
You are invited to be part of the mic testing chorus on Friday at 10:00 AM. Be at the Convention Center by 9:45 AM and take a seat until invited up on stage. We usually sing a Star song or two!

Past, Present, and Future...

2009 Convention logo
Celebrity City's theme for the 2009 Regional Convention is "Past, Present and Future".

We would like to have each chorus
send pictures of past members, current
members and events, and then, most of
all, of the young women in each chorus
who will be the future of Sweet Adelines
in our region.

We want to showcase these in our
decorations.  Also any pictures of quartets ...past, present, future.

Pictures sent by e-mail in PDF format will work the best. Send to robinwolf@mac.com or via snail mail and I will scan them and return them:

Build a beautiful website...!

Just launched for the Sweet Adeline community...

ConnectedSound.com

ConnectedSound.com
offers beautiful website designs, hosting, and matching business cards, e-mail newsletters, and a cafepress store.

The site was co-founded by Adam Wilner, husband of Santa Monica Chorus member, Shelly Wilner, so they're partial to Region 11 clients!

Website
You can choose from a rich library of gorgeous high-end web designs. A real designer will put your group's photo, name and slogan into the header. They put up a full website with your names and info worked into the text, which you can then edit yourself.

Your site comes with a great flash photo gallery, an audio player you can upload your recordings to, paypal buttons, and choruses get a great members-only section. You can add unlimited pages, get unlimited emails, and to top it all off, you get your domain name for free.

Other Stuff
For a little more you can get matching business cards, which are a marketing must. Once you sign off on the proof, the biz cards are mailed to you within a week.

An attractive email newsletter that looks like your website is another great way to build your fanbase, and for choruses to communicate with members.

Lastly, you can get a CafePress store, and have the product page right there on your site. ConnectedSound will upload your graphics and set up your store with loads of products.

Amazing Price
For the first 50 quartets and 50 choruses, they are waiving the setup fee for the site, so you can get the whole thing started just paying the first month's hosting fee, $19.99. This is an opportunity not to be missed.

Having trouble seeing the graphics?

Each of the articles above has a photo or graphic image with it. There are also several links within articles.

If you cannot see the graphics -- or if you don't see a big graphic at the top of this newsletter that says "Marketing Minute", check to see if you have a button or link at the top of your e-mail that says "Show Pictures" or "Download Pictures" (or something similar) -- clicking that should allow you to see all the graphics!

If you have any comments, suggestions, or have marketing you'd like to share with the region in the next "Marketing Minute", please send them to me!
