Fosamax Tied to Increased Risk of Heart Condition
By: Dr Carolyn Berghuis, MS, ND, CTN
Wellness Director: Joy of Raphael
While the title may sound shocking to you, the connection between Fosamax and cardiovascular health has been known for some time now. Why the general public doesn't get the real information is something we need to question. Click here to read what USA Today has to say about the subject.

Natural Ways to Keep Your Bones
Healthy & Strong
by Dr. Carolyn Berghuis, MS, ND, CTN
Wellness Director: Joy of Raphael
While osteoporosis can be a debilitating and frightening disease, many women (and men) suffer needlessly. By incorporating natural measures into our lifestyle we can strengthen our bones for a life time.
Dr. Weston A. Price, often hailed as the "Charles Darwin of nutritional research" traveled the globe (on his own dime) studying native peoples and their diet. Where ever he found isolated groups of primitive people, he found them in vibrant health and with "bones like rock and teeth like pearls."
Dr. Price found that these groups ate a primitive diet, rich in essential food factors. These people uniformly ate animal foods such as fish eggs, shellfish, organ meats, game, and butter from cows that grazed on green grass. Dr. Price proved that cavities, deformed dental arches, crooked and crowded teeth, and weak bones resulted from nutritional deficiencies. Once these peoples were exposed to the Standard American Diet (SAD) their teeth began expressing dental carries and their bones began showing signs of osteoporosis.
Dr. Carolyn's Anti-Osteoporosis Protocol
While we come with our own unique nutritional blueprint and what one individual needs is not the same as her best friend, sister or mother, there are a few basic tenants that apply to most of us that I would like to share with you.
Sardines 506 mg
Figs (4) 500 mg
Quiche, cheese 367 mg
Omelet, cheese 344 mg
Parmesan cheese 308 mg
Whole Milk, 8 oz 236 mg

Dr. Carolyn's & Katie's Shaklee Favorites
Part of any successful wellness program includes clean air; air free of dangerous household chemicals. In Joy of Raphael we utilize Shaklee's AirSource to keep the air as pure and clean as possible.
We also use Shaklee's Get Clean household cleaners exclusively, including their laundry products to keep our therapy beds chemical free for our guests.
Looking for a quick, healthy lunch or snack? Dr. Carolyn and Katie often enjoy a quick Cinch shake during the day - sometimes life is too busy to make that healthy salad!
