Newsletter Header

Greetings, friends,

I've missed corresponding with you, but I've been working on my new book, POISED FOR SUCCESS (St. Martin's Press, November 2011).  Most people aren't aware of how much time and effort goes into writing a book, but I'm here to tell you that it's a lot of work.  Here's a synopsis of what I have been doing lately.

On February 28, I turned in my finished manuscript to my publisher.  Since then, I've completed two rounds of edits and I'm now waiting for my final round of copy edits.  I am also waiting to receive final approve for the cover art.

In the meantime, I have received six cover blurbs for the back of my book.  I am excited to announce that the book is endorsed by New York Times bestselling authors, Janine Driver and Larina Kase, as well as bestselling authors, Terri Morrison, P.M. Forni, Karen Leland, and Simon Bailey.  My good friend, Victoria Moran, bestselling author of Creating a Charmed Life, has written the foreword for the book.

Additionally, the simplified Chinese rights to POISED FOR SUCCESS have recently been purchased by Big Apple Agency!  This is great news considering the book hasn't even been published in the U.S. yet.

In a few weeks, I will have a copy of my galley to share with you.  A galley is a finished book sample that serves as an uncorrected proof, or advance reading copy (ARC).  A galley is bound like a paperback, though the cover is similar to that of the final book.  It is created by the publisher months prior to the final printing and release of the book.  The galley is sent to book reviewers, the media, libraries, booksellers, bloggers, and other people who are crucial to the commercial success of the book.

Please stay tuned as the book will finally be published on November 8 -- just in time for the holidays!  If you wish to receive my publishing updates as well as more etiquette tips, please subscribe to my blog, or connect with me on Facebook or Twitter.  And as always, thank you for your support and encouraging comments!

To your success,

Five Office Etiquette Rules You Need to Know

man adjusting tie In its mildest form, bad office etiquette makes a workplace an uncomfortable and unproductive place. At its worst, it's a grown-up version of bullying and can leave a company at risk for lawsuits. On the other hand, minding your manners makes good business sense, according to experts.

Good business behavior will set you apart from the competition. When you are mindful of your behavior and the feelings of others, you will be more likable and promotable.  Here are five rules for exemplary office etiquette.  Read more.

Fifteen Essential E-Mail Etiquette Tips

E-mail etiquetteE-mail is one of the most efficient ways of staying in touch with customers, coworkers and clients. It's faster than sending a letter, less intrusive than a phone call, less hassle than a fax, and often more convenient for the recipient. Because of these benefits, it has become pervasive in our corporate culture. Here are 15 essential e-mail etiquette tips that can improve the way you communicate with others.  Read more.

A Brief Guide to Fair Tipping

tippingWhere do you fall on the tipping spectrum? Do you hand the pizza delivery guy a $20 for your $14 pizza and declare with a grin, "Keep the change," or are you the type who slips the bartender a folded-up $1 bill and hopes he won't notice until after you've downed your $16 martini and skedaddled?

In honor of Larry Fox, the New York City deli delivery guy who outs bad tippers on his website, (and got fired for it), I offer a guide to avoid winding up among Larry's gaggle of gratuity grinches. Read more.

Inspiring Video of the Month

I'm often asked in my seminars if I think it's okay to hug someone in business and my answer is always the same: "In business, it's okay to hug someone only if you know him or her extremely well.  However, I believe we would have less violence, depression and hatred in this world if we hugged more people."  In the spirit of affection, I hope you enjoy this month's feature: Free Hugs in Sondrio, Italy.
