December 2010

Newsletter Header
Seasons greetings!  In the last issue of The Protocol Post, I asked for your help in coming up with a title for my new book.  I am deeply grateful that so many of you took the time to email your fabulous title suggestions to me. After perusing all of your emails and Facebook comments, my publisher and I finally chose a permanent title (drum roll, please)!

The title is: SUCCESS IS IN THE DETAILS: The Four Key Qualities That Distinguish Outstanding Professionals.

No one can write a book alone, therefore, I am working with an amazing team of people who are helping me make this book a reality.  I am so looking forward to sharing this book with you when it comes out in November 2011!  Please remember to subscribe to my blog if you want to follow my writing progress.

Thank you for all your support in 2010 and I hope that you and your family have a peaceful holiday season and Happy New Year!

With appreciation,

(FOXNews.com) Before you run out and buy a bank-breaking gift for your boss, it's important to know what message your gift may be sending.  Expensive doesn't always mean better; in fact, most of the time, buying the boss a pricey present can make you look bad.  So where do you begin when it comes to gifting your boss? Here are some guidelines.  Read more.

Hold your tongue, and the liquor, at holiday office party

office parties(OrlandoSentinel.com) When chatting up management at the holiday office party, skip talk of your affection -- or disdain -- for political lightning rods such as Sarah Palin or President Barack Obama.  As more employers host holiday parties this year, workers may need to be reminded how to act at these events.  Read more.

Have holiday gratuities reached a tipping point?

tip jar
(Globe and Mail)  With so much of our lives outsourced -- to massage therapists, mechanics, cleaners, caregivers -- the number of hands awaiting a holiday tip has grown.  Want to know who to tip and how much?  Read more.

Ask the Expert:
What do I do if someone at work buys me a gift and I didn't buy him one?

You don't have to buy a gift for everyone who buys you a gift.  Just accept the gift with a graceful, "thank you."  Also, remember to write a thank-you note.
