October 2010
Newsletter Header
Greetings!  October is my favorite month of the year.  Why?  Because it marks the beginning of many exciting things including my birthday, cooler weather and Halloween.

Retreat participantsThis month is especially exciting because I hosted my very first Etiquette & Image and Consultants Retreat on October 1-2.  Seven fabulous women traveled from all over the globe to spend a weekend with me in my home office.  The retreat provided an opportunity for us to network, exchange ideas, and develop a better understanding of our business and marketing goals.  All in all, it was a huge success.  To view some pictures from the retreat, click here.  Don't worry, if you missed this retreat I plan to have another one in March 2011!

But the biggest news of the month is this...St. Martin's Press has offered to publish my second book!  The working title is The Elegant Edge.  I am feverishly working on my manuscript as it has to be complete by February 28, 2011.  If all goes as planned, my book is scheduled to hit the bookstores in November 2011, just in time for the holidays!  The idea for this book has been ruminating in my mind for nearly four years but now I finally have the time and inspiration to write it.  If you're interested in following my book writing journey, from start to finish, please subscribe to my blog for frequent updates.

Although my life will be extremely busy these next few months, please know that you can always find out where I am and what I'm doing through Facebook, Twitter, or my blog!

Wishing you joy and abundance,signature

(Bukisa.com) You may be the best. You may be the brightest. But you also may be unaware that you're making fatal mistakes as you represent yourself to others in your company. Everyone knows that first impressions last for a very long time, and are almost impossible to shake off completely but what about that fourth and fifth impression? The more you work with people, the more you get to know them professionally. You are your brand, and you're solely responsible for marketing it to others. Pay attention to these tips if you want to stand head and shoulders above the competition.

When It's More Polite to Unplug

(CNN.com) Look, we know the day is approaching when we'll no longer need to go outside to foster relationships. The day when the cords of technology will replace the cords of birth.

The day when we will join our computers in sweet, sweet union, becoming unyielding cyborgs who, if we're lucky, will learn to be something more than a machine and will someday learn how to love (much like the chrome creatures in The Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots").

Well, until that day comes -- hey, it's on the horizon, there's already a dude out there with a webcam for an eye -- it seems as good a time as any to take stock of our internet-tinged interpersonal relations.

Read on for four instances when it would be far wiser to unplug than to power up.
barberProfessional Courtesy Essentials in Healthcare

The medical/dental arena is an industry that is growing by leaps and bounds and one that has huge potential for etiquette and image consultants to tap into. As the field continues to rapidly hire healthcare workers at every level, many are coming to the work place with insufficient professional skills. In order to address this need, former nurse and certified etiquette consultant Karen Hickman has developed a new program,"Professional Courtesy Essentials in Healthcare." Enhance your etiquette curriculum and earn extra income by offering this program to medical, dental and pharmaceutical companies in your community.  For more information, or to order this program, click here.

Put down your alcoholic beverage before you get photographed!

I've always been a firm believer that if someone wants to take your photograph, you should put down your beverage before you strike a pose!  There's really no need to hold a drink in a picture unless you are being paid to promote that product.

Besides, first impressions are lasting impressions and new evidence shows that drinking is bad for your image, even if you don't open your mouth.
